Angry iPhone Integration

I am down to details on choosing a 2007 R-350 CPO from the many available. I want to make sure the bluetooth/iphone integration isn't a hassle once I have the vehicle. What isn't clear is what packages/options are necessary to accept the bluetooth adapter and allow the phone to get along nicely with the car.

Can anyone tell me the minimum I need to make the phone integration possible? Do I need COMMAND, or is "phone prewiring" and the HK stereo enough? I thank you all in advance for your wisdom.

All you need is telephone pre-wire and the standard MB HFP Bluetooth cradle. The latest iPhone software has resolved the previous issues of connecting to the MB phone system - you can now see all contacts, missed calls etc.

MB also do a fully integrated module specifically for the iPhone, but this does mean that you have to slot the phone into the cradle each time you get in the car. However, with the additional cabling, you can also use it to play music.

Personally, I use the HFP Bluetooth cradle and a seperate iPod permanently connected.

Question

Care to elaborate on the dock/cradle solution for iPhone 3G?

I'm currently using AUX but obviously steering wheel button integration is not there. Built-in iPod dock recommends turning of phone functions.. so it's not the best integration story as far as I can see.

I have 2007 R350.

Sure - this is a MB adapter which you clip the iPhone into so that it will charge the phone and connect it (still via bluetooth) through the cradle it is connected to.

In additon, there is an additonal cable which can be bought which runs off this, connecting the phone as an iPod to the system letting you control the music from the steering wheel and displaying tracks on the instrument cluster or Comand screen if you have one.

This is an actual MB supplied bit of kit.

Take a look here for more info

It's true the iPhone cradle can be a source for music, but the Mercedes ipod adapter kit must be installed first. AFTER that the cable to phone cradle.

Thanks for sharing the link, I would consider going for it except this note made me pause (pasting below). I read HFP specs and it too talks about incompatibility with iPhone 3G (I barely recall this as already addressed in one of the later released iPhone 3G updates but I could be wrong).

Without address book sync, I don't know if phone can be useful when it's hidden away under the arm rest.

---
This cradle does download the address book from the V2 iPhone / iPhone 3G unlike the alternative HFP cradle.

Magician2 - that is now out of date. Until the recent v2.2 software release for the iPhone, the standard MB HFP cradle did not download the address book, recent calls etc. That has now been fixed and works perfectly.

I had the HFP cradle and sold it and bought a ViseeO 2000 which did work ok with the iPhone. Now they both work perfectly. I should have waited for the inevitible software release from Apple. Nevermind, it's only money.

Just installed the iPhone kit in my 2008 R-350 with Comand and HK stereo. Paid $270 on eBay, free shipping and no tax. Phone and address book work beautifully.

Can anyone shed more light on the "extra cable" required to hook up the iPhone's audio? Where can I get it and what is the procedure for installing it?

Also, is there any way to access address book entries from the phone from the Nav system? It would be great to pull up a contact address and say "go."

That's the way it would work if you'd installed Mercedes parts.

Since you clearly haven't and you haven't identified the manufacturer of your system, how could anyone answer your question?

I did install the MB part, I just didn't overpay for it. To be honest your tone isn't what I expect in this forum. I'd appreciate any additional information you might have.
