I am getting this humming noise from the front end when driving. It almost sounds like the same noise from those big tires. The humming stops or gets lower when going over 65-70mph. I'm thinking it's the bearings but I only have 14,000 miles on a 06, I do have the oz 20" wheels. I hope the dealer doesn't blame the wheels.

2007 Lexus IS350 Sport granite metallic/gray
2004 Porsche 986S seal gray metallic/black/black
2002 Jeep KJ Sport white/gray
The tires are continental cross contact uhp 275/45/20. Had them for about a year with about 10,000 miles on them. I checked the fronts and they do seemed to be worn but they are rated at 420 treadwear. I would hope they last 25,000-30,000 miles but they look like they have a couple more thousand miles on them. Does anyone know what the symptoms of bad wheel bearings are (ie. Shaking or pulsating)
It could be that you have worn out the tires or maybe even have a cracked rim. Those are highly unlikely, but I would check either way.
More than likely (90%) you bearings are bad. The big indicator for me, is your description of a humming noise that stops when you turn one way or another. That is one of the biggest signs right there. If it turns into metal on metal sound, STOP! Drive slowly or have your car towed to your dealer.
Sorry, but that's what I think it is.

are there any tell tale signs of bad bearings, such as uneven tire wear or vibration in the steering. Also if I put it the jack and shake the wheel it should feel loose if the bearings are bad ? Btw thanks for all the responses.

The humming noise is the tell tale sign. Also, you're right, if you jack it up and move the wheel (putting hands at 12 & 6) try to move the wheel back and forth toward and away from you in opposite directions at the same time. If there is excess play, your bearings are very bad.
I would take it to the dealer just for the noise, and have them look at it.
Keep us updated!
*edited* to show correct placement of hands. Should be 12 & 6, not 9 & 3.
It doesn't really matter where your hands are. If you hear a humming noise and the wheel bearing is indeed bad, you will feel play no matter where your hands are.
