Do you mind telling me if you bought/installed them at the dealer or somewhere else and how much do they cost?
I got the CrossContacts at NTB. They had them in stock at the local store at a price comparable to TireRack, and, of course, I didn't have to pay shipping. Tires were $118 each and with installation, lifetime balance, road hazard, tax, etc., it cost $640.
My original tires were Conti 4x4 Contacts in 255/55-18 on my 07 R500. I autocrossed the car through the remainder of the season (www.mbca-gws.org) starting last July after we bought the car. I ran 44 lb in the front and 38 in the rear. As you may imagine, the fronts wore substantially. I rotated the fronts to the rear in May because I was concerned about them passing inspection. I replaced them last month with Michelin Latitude Sports, a V-rated tire. The mileage at the time of the changeover was around 21k. The tread on the tires which used to live on the rear was excellent, I'd guess near 60-70% remaining. My wife commutes in the car 28 miles r/t on smooth roads. We've done a couple of trips from VA to FL since we bought the car. I keep the tires inflated about 2 lb above recomended normal pressure.
The Michelins handle completely differently from the Contis. Summer vs. all-season, V-rated vs. H-rated. I haven't autoxed the car yet this summer. I may do so toward the end of the season, in October.
I bought mine through a local vendor, TireVan.com. They come to the house or the office and install the tires. All costs and services are included. My purchase ran $1100+/-.
