install itronic in r350

Hello all, i have an 06 r350 and have been wanting to put the itronic system in it for a while now. I was wondering where the fiber optic harness is in the r350. i have taken the center console off but there is no wiring there except the power to the cig lighter.

thanks for your help in advance

hello all, just wanted to post an update here.

I figured out how to install the itronic, basically i had to take out both the Climate control panel and the comand unit panel to get to the fiber optic connections. i used the 12v connection going to the climate control panel to power the itronic unit.

so far it seems to be working quite well.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an "itronic"?

I was wondering the same thing. At first I thought he meant 'Parktronic'.

Waiting with baited breath!

hey all, the itronic is that 3rd party bluetooth unit for non pre-wired mb cars.

here is a link:
InCarTronics, formerly EuroCarPhone

it gives us the ability to use the keypad and steering controls for the phone and audio comes through the speakers in the car.

Interesting. Not inexpensive but if it works as advertised with both phone and iPod, worth considering.

What is Mercedes positon on this? Do you negate the warranty by installing it? Is it evident that an install has been made? Is it removable with no evidence of previous installation?

I'm about to do the same thing to my R350. How did you remove the HVAC panel to get to the fiber?

Well, I'm not impressed with the company...

I posted on their sponsor board last Friday asking about warranty implications for their device. I also sent an email to their customer service people.

It's been four - going on five - days and still no response either on this board or by email.

Doesn't build a lot of confidence.

OK, just got a reply to my email to these guys. It was short (not overly sweet):

So, does that mean if one installs it by oneself, MB won't get in a snit with warranty issues?

hi there,

@jameyj69: the hvac unit and the comand unit are two seperate units. to remove the hvac unit, i put a thin screwdriver in the top left and right corners of the woodtrim and pushed away from the dash and the hvac unit popped out. same for the comand unit. a warning though, the comand unit is quite heavy.

@rpringle: the only evidence of an install might be the power wires on the hvac unit. they will be stripped because i used a bridging clip to power the itronic device.

let me know if you have any questions.

thanks
