Diesel Tuning

Hey,

New to this part of the forum, just bought the R 320 CDI.
Here in Norway it's really popular to tune the the CDI engines. They reprogram the ECU, with no external tunining boxes or chips. The 320 typically gets 260-270 hp and 600+ NM torque. Is this common in the USA? Will the reliability suffer from this? Any experiences?

While I've never looked for it, I doubt you can buy what you suggest here. Unlike Europe, the auto diesel market in the US is small. And then when you multiply that by the small fraction of enthusiasts who would buy a diesel vehicle here (again, totally different market than Europe because of fuel prices here) such as the R class with an interest in tuning it, it probably makes little economic sense to sell aftermarket diesel tuning here of the type you mention. I for one would be interested, but I imagine I would be in a tiny minority.

Carlsson sell a kit; it increases the output by 45bhp. If you get one, please report what you think. I am sort of curious myself.

I to just bought the R320 yesterday. I saw Brabus just released a kit for the 320 CDI. It claims 50 HP bump and 30 percent more torque. Exciting thought and better gas mileage. I would love to know more if you have any thoughts on how much they cost, warranty issues. I know Brabus is a Mercedes specialist. Any comments would be appreciated.

Those mesh inserts for the lower grille look very nice. Anybody know the availability and price of the inserts. It shows a pic of them but no mention of them on the site though.

I just installed the Spider Tuning Box for my Mercedes R320 and cannot believe the difference it makes to the car. I was happy before, but now it is a whole new ball game, very linear ramp up and no more flat spot, also the throttle pedal is much more responsive. I paid 375 pounds from a dealer in Wales and it arrived in less than a week. If you are thinking of tuning you diesel, this unit is awesome and very easy to install once you figure out where it goes. It is true plug and play and has the ability to fine tune as well.

I have now done a remapping of the ecu (no external box) The claim is approx 270 hp (din)
and 620 nm torque. They just connect temselves to the ecu by the diagnosis port, read out the original map, sends it to their headoffice in Germany, and they send a new map back which they reprogrammes the ECU with. Everything is normal (temp etc), but more "grunt" . Now it's also more willing above 4000 rpm....

Big hello to Mercedes owners!

I just purchased 08 Jeep Grang Cherokee with Mercedes 3 liter V6 common rail diesel. Most of the drive train is Mercedes, except for the rear axle. While I am very much enjoying performance of my Mercedes-Jeep I am very interested in trying some diesel tuning solution.
It is pretty obvious that Jeep specific solution will not be available for a long time, or maybe ever, since Mercedes and Chrysler are no longer together and I hear talks about new Jeeps soon to be equipped with redneck Cummins power.
I wonder if Spyder, or Carlsson tuning box going to work on my SUV? I am pretty sure brain box and transmission controller are all Mercedes, so it should plug in fine. Any advice is appreciated.
