I left my car this morning for a service B at the local dealer. I got a call
in the afternoon from the service guy telling me they scratched
the rear door of my R-350 and would like my permission for them to fix it.
He said they were going to send it to their body shop and it will take a week
to get fixed. I was thinking to myself, wow just scratches and it would take that long to fix. I thought they were just busy.
They promised to give me a similar
R - Class because I needed an R because of my kids. I also told them I need
to take off the car seats inside my car so I can transfer them to the new loaner.
I got to their bodyshop and saw the damage for the first time, I thought
they were just small scratches when described on the phone by the service guy, the damaged looked like somebody ram
sideways into the car! (see picture, they were taken using my cell phone) I couldn't believe they didn't offer me to see the
damage first before asking for my permission for them to repair it.
Maybe they didn't want me to see the damage. I don't know.
I asked to speak to the manager but they told me they were all gone fo the day.
So tomorrow I will talk to the manager and asked for it to be repaired
by a body shop I trust.
any advice?
Geez, LLCD;
After reading your post about the dealer damaging your R, I was interested to see what area you are from so I checked on some of your previous posts which included:
Looking for a body shop in San Diego (April)
Got rear ended in parking lot (June)
and today's - Dealer damaged my vehicle while in for service (August)
Wow, it is like there is a cloud over that car of yours!
I had to get the front of my R repainted because I parked in the airport garage and something leached out of the structure covering the front of the car etching the paint. Was pretty upsetting with a car only 3 months old but looks fine now. The garage owner paid for the repaint - apparently there have been a number of incidents @ the garage.

Yeah, it feels like there is a cloud over this vehicle. My other 11 year old car never had this same problem. I just got the rear bumber done and after two weeks this happened.

accidents happen, and even at the top rated mercedes dealers there will be ocassional screw-ups. the difference between an excellent and a lousy dealership is in how they handle resolving your problem going forward.
Its acceptable to let them repair the vehicle using their bodyshop as long as they provide assurances that the repair work will be done using genuine new parts. the damage is really not that bad and it could have been far worse. mishaps like that happen from time to time particularly when you consider the huge number of cars that they have to move around the facility in a given day. its understandable to be irritated about it but dont let it get you mad: it is just a car.
Yeah it sounds like they're doing the right thing by offering to repair it. Not that they really have any other choice, but they could have lied about why the car had to stay in the shop.
