Cargo Head Room

Hello,

I'm thinking about buying a 2006 R350. It's just off a lease and has 23K mile. It has the Nav unit, multi-CD player and the Sunroof package. I love the car, but here's my problem:

I bumped my head on the ceiling as I was standing after inspecting the cargo area. Actually, I did this several times and I find it rather anoying. I don't want to constantly worry and reminding myself about bumping my head. I'm about 6'1".

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to adjust the suspension height to avoid this? I think I read something about that. I haven't had this problem with other SUV's.

Thanks in advance!!

Other than raising the height with airmatic, don't think you can do much else.
I'm only 5' 8" and I had the same problem after changing from a Grand Cherokee.
You soon remember! It's just the way the roofline slopes down at the back.

I read it somewhere or the salesman told me that the height of the rear door is adjustable

You're right! I have an '06 with an Operator's Manual having a print date of 09/05. On page 187 it shows how to limit the opening height of the tailgate if you have the auto tailgate. The full opening height is stated at 6.4 ft on page 124 of the same manual.

Hope this helps!

Correct, but klelewon was hitting his head on the ceiling which I take as in the cabin. Limiting the opening of the tailgate is handy whiile in the garage but it's still a bit too low.

Thanks for all the Help!!

I've test driven two other R350's and didn't have a problem. I did notice that the overall vehicle heights seemed a bit higher than the "problematic" ones. So, I think the Airmatic adjustment is the way to go. I'll also look at the rear door adjustment too. I also remember a salesman mentioning that the rear door's opening is adjustable. I'll check the manual for instructions on how to do this.

Thank you all (BobbyHowie, rickpaguyo, THR500) so very much. Your adviced was a great help. This was the only major issue I had with the car. I'll make my final purchase decision in a few days. I'll keep you posted!

Thanks again!!

Good luck Klelewon. You won't regret it, the R-class is a great car - very underrated. Oh, and get xenons as they are brilliant! (pun intended) )
I'd say they're even better than the bi-xenons on my SL.
