Right Mirror not dipping & steering wheel not moving up.

When I first got my R500 there were two features that I really liked that have stopped working. I just want to ask anyone out there if I may have caused it some how and how to fix it if I did before I go ask my dealer to fix it.

First, the right side mirror would drop down when I went into reverse - really nice for backing into my garage which is a tight fit. Now it does not.

Second, the steering wheel used to rise when the car was stopped and the door opened to get out; and my wife reports that the seat would go back a bit also.(She puts the seat about as far up and forward as it will go) Both of those do not happen now.

I have about 3,500 miles or so on the vehicle and recently had a navigation system installed at the dealership.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

Happened to me as well

It did happen to me as well.. let me try to remember best and given hindsight I tried to think why it could be the case (though have't tested my thesis on it yet)..

I love both the features too.. but suddenly realized that they stopped working.

1. make sure that you have the options under "convenience" selected..
2. When you put the car in reverse, make sure that the mirror controls on the driver door, the red light for the right mirror turns on and not for the driver side one - if not simply (only once) manually select the right mirror.
3. make sure that you are on a "Memory" seat position and not manually selt up one.

I think if you manually set any position on the car, it temporarily disables these features so that the position is not messed up next time you sit (kind of stupid because it probably should remeber your manually adjusted position and comeback to it ). The other is probably a bug.. because I think if you have manually adjusted the driver side mirror, the feature does not activate the opposite side one to adjust of the curb view. Once you activate the right mirror manually, it should always do that automatically from there on.

let me know if that helps.

jintin,

Thanks for the advise - It worked! Near as I can figure out, they probably got reset when the navigation system was installed. All seems to be working fine now.

Thanks,
Paul

jintin and OldSavage -

Do both of you have '06 R? Mine is an '07 CDI with memory seats. Would the dipping mirror feature work on my '07? The steering wheel rising feature has been working fine. I'll try jintin's steps this afternoon and hope it works.

Mine is a 06 R 500

Hope my procedure helps.. if you need just the Right wing mirror to look down at the curb to assit while parking, make sure that you have the option selected first in the menu..

Cheers..

Mine is an 06, but I am pretty sure that teh feature would be there on an 07 too. After you enable it, just make sure that the right mirror is selecter when you put the car into reverse. I really like the dipping right mirror feature since I have to back into a tight garage.
