I'm looking forward to ordering an R320 Diesel just like on the web page. Something about the Luggage trunk and the mud flaps really makes this car! Please reply if you have any comments on the R320 Diesel, interested to see what type of mileage it gets with the weight and the 4wd.

We have a new R320 CDI. We went on a trip of about 500 miles with 80% of that being highway driving. Weather was cold and car had only about 1200 miles on it at the time. We got 28.1mpg. I would expect better in warmer weather after breakin.

Thanks. What was your cruising speed? 70's,80's? So I guess you did that on one tankful of fuel? Or could have? From what I've read about the diesel, most people are getting better mileage after break-in period. I'm not sure if mileage would go up with warmer weather, though. I believe heat dissapation robs power and fuel economy. Thanks again for your info.

Cruising varied from 60-70mph. I was driving rather carefully. I have owned many diesels over the last 35 years starting with a 240D. I also have a Chevy Duramax. I traded an E320 CDI for the R class. On summer trips the E320 CDI returned from 38-40mpg which is better than EPA rating. My experience has been that in the winter diesel fuel economy suffers by 10% especially if the temperature falls below 20 degrees.

then I'll take it from you, sounds like you're the expert on the diesels! I applaud Mercedes for putting their diesel in more of their vehicles, told my dealer I would be the E-Wagon if they put the diesel in it, but I think I'll enjoy the R more because it's so weird (or, shall we say "distinctive") looking. Good luck with your new car.
I get about 12.8l/100km all city driving though. It is also cold as hell, by that I mean about -20C most of the time and the car still does not have 800km on it. Would not trade it for the world, well maybe G if it came in CDI in NA. Over all I am quiet impressed with it, and I think the car is far better deal to get than R350 at least in Canada anyway.
I also am in Canada, temps are pretty cold now in Feb. ( 5 deg F or -15 celsius) and mileage is suffering, but with city driving I'm still getting about 12.5 L / 100km or just under 20 mpg. I expect things will get much better when it warms up.
Very happy with the engine, it's hard to believe it's a V6 diesel! Transmission is great too. The drivetrain is a masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned.
Just took delivery of an R320CDI. Drove 38 miles to work and according to the trip computer got 25.5 mpg with an air temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
I saw you posted a left rear suspension, when you first took dilivery of your new R320 from the dealership last weekend. So, is your new R320 fixed? Any information that you can share?
I also have ordered an R320 with delivery date in mid to late March. Thanks.

Yes the Dealer replaced the left rear air shock that leaked oil ( I have a bare bones R320 with 13 miles on the odometer). The car had sat at the dealer's lot in extreme cold for about 2 weeks after being manufactured during the week of 1/20/07. The car appears to be fine now, but I am on alert.
I do recommend driving your car prior to payment and to listen for any noises from the suspension.
