Wait for 07 R-Class

Hi all, Newbie here. I am seriously considering to trade in my X5 for a R350. I am wondering should I wait for the 07? Anyone know when the 07 will be available? Also, any information or guess of the differences in price, options and colours between 06 and 07?

I test drove the car and definitely like it. Only unsure about the purchase now is about the colour since my wife really wants something more like "Granite Grey Metallic" or "Flint Grey". She picks "Irdium Silver" now but she is definitely hoping 07 will have more colors.

Thanks.

Yeah, it gets me worry should I even buy a R since it is selling very slow...... I really think it is a good deal for a MB but the styling and the future resell concern me. I am also not looking at lease since my wife normally drives only 5000 miles/year and she is a clean freak. It doesn't make sense for us to return the car after 27 months lease and probably doesn't even look like the car is being used at all.

I hope they dont make any significant changes, it would really suck as im getting one so close to the end of the model year. Although, at the price im getting it for I shouldnt really be complaining, they lease jettas for more. I would lease, because i think the resale value will be too low. The residual on a 27 month 10k/yr lease is 73%, i dont know who they are going to sell it to at that price but thats their problem. I am getting mine at a cap cost of almost $12K off sticker.

The R is not selling slow, especially lately. Sales are healthy and reaching targets. The problem, however, is that demand is very concentrated in certain markets.

There are no significant changes to the 2007 R-Class line-up in the US sans the aditions of two new models: R320 CDI and R63 AMG.

I think the 07 R500 will become a R550 and bump up from 302HP to 382HP but the R350 should remain the same. Maybe they can add some more non-metallic standard colors as well as LED tails. Rear view camera on the nav screen would also be nice...

The R500 stays for '07. No R550 yet.

Is your X5 a V8 or 6 cyl? I came out of a X5 V8 and I miss it dearly. I guess if your car is a 3.0 you might not notice a huge diffrence in the performance, but it's hard to beat the BMW's handling, even with the Sport pkg and the air suspension that I have. I ended up leasing my car because of the agressive program MBZ had, the fact that my wife fell in love with the R and after 27 mos I can get out of it easily and back into a new model X5 or Q7. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my R350, it's six seats, panoramaroof, comand-navi, Harman-Kardon sound, 19" AMG rims, and so forth. I just wish it would handle a bit better and I regret not picking the V8.

How much R&D did it take to do an engine swap and rebadge a Chrysler Pacifica?

I would imagine it would not take much R&D to swap an engine into a Pacifica and put a different badge on it. But if you are trying to refer to the R-class, you have no clue what you are talking about. The R shares it platform with the ML and the GL. The only thing it shares with the Pacifica is the concept, kind of like Kia has an SUV and Porsche has an SUV -- does not make them the same.

Well, I'm not so certain - take a look at the "hard points" of the platform - like the "A" pillar and windshield shape, the "C" pillar - height and track are essentially the same - wheelbase is easy to fiddle. Cars do not have to be made in the same plant to share a platform - Ford builds cars all over the world based on the Volvo S80/V70 and the Mazda 6 platforms.

Sharing some Chrysler heritage may be no real disadvantage - Chrysler has outscored Benz on reliability recently!
