I'm 6ft with 33 inch inside leg and nowhere near enough legroom in front of R class. Very disappointing. More legroom in the little A class and the B and C and E class. And in the R class with the front seat back I have nowhere near enough room in the middle seats either. Real design fault that it won't take full size adults. I was going to buy but more room in my B class so I bought a 4 month old S class instead. Space to die for and superb to drive.
Well, that's a complaint that I haven't heard yet. I believe that the R is more than competitive in front legroom with competing vehicles. Personally, I find it more commodious than my old E wagon, although on paper they are similar.

Do you drive in a horizontal position? the R class has more space than my father's Audi Q7 ! an is not as ugly !!!

No. I have more than enough legroom in the A class (my brothers), B class (had one), C class (had one for two years), E class (had several) and now in my |S class. But not in the R class. When you raise the seat it swings forward reducing the legroom. And it just is not enough for me. It's all done to get the extra row of seats in, which I don't happen to need. But it drives and rides really well and I love the looks.

Being a daddy longlegs is no joke when buying cars. Most makes do not offer enough legroom for those with 33inch inside leg or more. The Lexus 4x4 does not have enough for me nor do most Audis. Mercs are exceptional. In most models if I push the seat right back even I cannot reach the pedals properly. But not in the R class. If you are blessed with shorter legs its no problem for you, but it is sad for those of us who need a bit more room.
I got into the R in the showroom as well as my Brother 6'1 and 6'5 respectively and we both had ample room and thats coming from a 95 S class owner
Lucky you. It all turns on leg-length not height. I have a friend 6ft 4" but only 29 inch inside leg. I'm 6ft but 33inch leg. Ideally want seat back enough so thighs supported when feet using pedals at average sort of travel. I can't do that in the R but can in all other Mercedes - even the A class where I do not even need the seat fully back. Glad it suits you.
Well I am 6'3 and have a 36 inch inseam. I currently own a SLK, E350 wagon and an ML430. Without a doubt the R class has less room than the SLK and E350. It has more than the ML430. I wouldn't call an R350/500 cramped. I have no problem fitting in the R-class. I ordered the R63. I think cramped is extremely overstating less leg room.

OK; let's agree it has less room than the SLK or E class from your experience. Now add mine that the A, the B and the C class all have more legroom in the front and the B has miles more in the back. I accept the old ML was a lot less roomy in front legroom than it looked. I was a bit short of legroom in my ML. But I think it had more than the R class at least with the seat raised where I like it. The R seat swings forward a lot when you raise it and reduces legroom. (BTW the new M has loads of legroom front and rear).
Cramped is relative. If you don't have enough legroom you feel cramped even though another person might not.
Here's an experiment. Push the front seat right back. Recline it a normal, sensible amount. First with your foot on the accelerator in the tickover position are your thighs supported? (if not you will ache on a long run). BTW mine were not supported with the seat fully back. Second: leave the seat fully back. Now sit behind it. How far are your knees from the back of the drivers seat? Touching in my case (I was in the short wheelbase version sold in UK but may not be in US???). I was told the long-wheelbase had a bit more legroom in the back, a bit more boot space but no more legroom in the front.
If the legroom had been right for me, I would have bought one. If it suits you -fine. It is a great drive. But just try the experiment in case.
