RE: 3 WEEKS OLD NOW PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION

Sounds like you're a victim of the early generation trannys with a defective/poorly designed valve body. I had noted that some on the W164 had similar problems and the valve bodys had to be replaced. Keep us posted and tell us what they did to solve it.

RE: 3 WEEKS OLD NOW PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION

From what I have read it needs a "software update". Not realy sure.

RE: 3 WEEKS OLD NOW PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION

Its either software update or change valve assembly and the problem will be fixed. I had the same problem in my ML and it was fixed by valve assembly change and the tranny downshift has not occurred since.

Take it to the dealer, it should be easily fixed.

Leased my R350 Saks Edition in November. Transmission was acting up, but I didn't take it in until the car was jumping everytime I slowed down. They had it for a week and updated software. It's still not acting right but I'm not taking it back in until it's convenient for me since they keep it for so long.

I had the problem too and it was fixed with a software update. No issues since (about 2 mos.) Others have needed a new valve body. MB has issued a TSB, so the dealers know about it and how to fix it.

don't worry, I have owned more than 7 new mercedes benzs' and they all have glitches, some big some small, the best thing to do is to be very nice to your service advisors, they will help you straigten out these problems. Being rude or confrontational with the Dealer will only make your experience progressively worse in the long run.

Give it time, after the first few visits taking care of these misc. problems, the car is going to be alright. I will be bringing my R500 for a number of problems. I know they'll take care of it.

Hope this advise helps.... remember to be nice to your service advisor, they didn't make the car, but they are only trying to help you out with your problem.

Good advice. Unless of course, the service advisor is also part of the problem, which has happened to me. It's one of the reasons that I wont buy from MB Manhattan any longer...they cant seem to get or keep good service techs. The smaller dealerships seem to be much more customer service oriented.
