Today I had to be towed... my R350 would not shift out of 'park'
The dealer that I was towed to says they have 4 cars with this shifter in need of repair ( with a wait list on the parts).... to be fair, some were the new ML, some were the new R.
Error message lights up in red letters.... " drive to shop... do not change gears" or something close to that....
I will be without my R for a while, until the part comes in.
they said it was the motor that shifts it in and out of park... they said it was not a huge deal.... takes nothing to replace... it's just not in stock... :(
I am just glad I was not too far away from civilization when it happened...
I went online to search my problem with my new R-class and you post popped up. I have the same thing on my new R-class, I only got it 2 weeks ago. I also live in NJ and after 5 days of having it, a deer ran into the side as we were driving down the road! Minimal damage to the bottom of the car, but what a bummer, I'm waiting for the insurance person to come and look at the car and now I have to call the dealership to have it towed. I do love the car however. I just so sad I'm going to be without it. How long did your dealer say it would take?
My dealer called today.... it was a software fix.... they said the car was shifting as new....
Globe Motors in NJ told me it was going to take weeks.... because it was a part they were waiting on...
Catena in Edison says they fixed it with a software update....
So, we shall see if it is truly fixed... hopefully there will be no problems when I get it back tomorrow...
Sorry to hear about your accident... that is awful.... oh well.. that's what insurance is for.... at least that's what I told myself when I totalled the engine on my wife's e350 4matic :)
To be clear.... Catena is my dealer... Globe is the place it was towed to, since they were the closest dealer....
Globe then informed me that it would take weeks to get the part - and that since I didn't buy the car from them, they would NOT loan me a car ( not even an Enterprise rental)... they said they wanted me as a customer... but NO loaner....
I informed them that I had just bought two MBs and was planning on servicing them both there, due to their proximity to my house.
They spoke to the service manager... he came out and said.... too bad.... no loaners ever, since I didn't buy the car from them...
I then called Ray Catena in Edison.... they came and got my car from Globe..... provided me several options for a free loaner.... and repaired my car the next day..... Catena found that it was a software fix.... Globe only told me that they had several others waiting for this part... and they had those cars in their lot... the owners were without their cars....
I much rather have my car at Catena and deal with the personnel at Catena.... I have been in Globe MANY MANY times and have yet to see anyone there smile.... If I am going to pay you money and have to see you over and over again, it would be nice to be treated well... I feel with any dealership, the attitude starts from the top down......
Gloobe doesn't get that much business due to this.....
They have a machine that sells potato chips/trail mix/granola bars to their clients.. and a coffee machine...
At Catena its like walking into a full Deli, except there are no prices for the fresh sandwiches/salads/soda/continental Bkfst and more...... You get to hits golf balls... play pool... browse the web.... watch multiple TVs.... etc.... all while being treated like you are a pleasure to serve.
My experience at Globe just served to remind me how happy I am to be a Catena customer...
I am glad to see that you were taken care of properly. Customer service is the great equalizer in the car business and the reason I bought my R from a dealer outside of Manhattan.
Ray Catena is also my dealer and they came this morning to tow away the R-class and left me a truck, some type of big Nissan truck, the name starts with an A. Glad to hear Catena picked up your R. I've never heard of Globe Motors. I live a good 35 minutes from Catena.
Thanks for the info and good luck with both of your cars.

Nissan Armada? That thing is huge!
Anyway, sorry to hear about your problesm guys. I really was hoping to see less problems, but that might not happen anytime soon.
Never heard of Catena, but their service sounds wonderful. Our dealer has okay service. We get to watch a TV, eat some muffins, look at some cars, and that's just about it. The service people are nice, they have their bad days occasionally.
