I/R windshield and radar detectors, garage door opener remotes ect.

Thought this might be helpful info to some, some is straight from the owners manual.
Affected vehicles are I/R glass windshields in
ML500, R500
ML350, R350 w/ optional 3 zone climate control system
Performance of the garage door opener, toll transponder and/or radar detector, please advise the customer that the vehicle is equipped with infrared (IR) reflecting glass which may affect performance of these devices. The windshield in this case has a metallic coating which prevents transmission of radio frequency (RF) signals. As described in the Operator’s Manual (Section – Controls in Detail, Useful Features, Infrared Reflecting Windshield), there are three “windows in the glass (Figure 1, 1) which do not have this IR reflecting coating. These are located on the left and right sides of the interior rearview mirror at the upper edge of the windshield and in the center at the lower edge of the windshield. These areas are visible under proper lighting conditions from either outside (appear as a brown tint) or inside the vehicle (a cross hatch pattern). Please be sure the customer is correctly locating their device in one of these three “windows.
Enjoy,
Sam

Sam,
I have a GL450 with and IR windshield and I can't find the spot to put my garage door device. Please tell me how to locate the right place.

It's in your owner's manual.

I have looked in the manual, and they do show the spots to put it, but when I put the device there, it still does not work. I wonder if there is a way to see the spot through the windshield using a light of some kind.

you can see the "opening" under the right light. also , roll down the window and you can see the "edge" of the coating as they leave about 1/8" clear.

the homelink range sucks.
