R Class - Nap test!

As you can tell from my recent posts, I have been having second thoughts, because the sports car lover in me wants a toy for myself... and not an R for my family.

So, I have been looking heavily at the S, the E500 4matic wagon ( a compromise), the Cayenne, the 750iL and even the new BMW 4WD wagon....

So, I took my baby sitter and my daughter with me to test drive the R350 and the E500 Wagon...

I wanted their opinion....

Well, after a few minutes they commented the R Class was comfortable... then proceeded to fall asleep in their reclined 2nd row seats.... hmmmm.... party over....

We never did drive the wagon....

They loved the R... loved the room.... seating height, etc...

In my mind I kept close attention to the power of the 350.... To be honest, it was fine.... highway ramps were not challenging... more than adequate power...

In my heart, I wanted the power to be sluggish to justify the R500 purchase....

The added premium in price and the 25% reduction in overall mpg between the 2 was not justified... so for now( at least until next week, when the R350 is supposed to arrive) the R350 is the winner.

What about the E55 AMG Wagon for a compromise?

RE: R Class - Nap test!

Are you saying the AMG wagon has more space than an E500 wagon?
I know you're not.

It's not really the power so much as it is the space..... I would be more interested in the AMG R Class than the AMG Wagon.... but again, the gas mileage is too low... I hate stopping for gas as it is... let alone stopping 3x a week to fill up.

I am 6'5", so the seats in my cars are always slid all the way back.... there rear seat behind the driver is almost always useless.

My 2000 740iL was the best for legroom... even the S, had less legroom behind me.....

The wagon is useless as far as legroom is concerned... so it becomes a 3 seater... and don't even mention those suicide seats that face the rear.... I would never sit my daughter in those.... for safety reasons....

The seat behind me in the R had more than enough room for a passenger... even I could sit behind the drivers seat when it is all the way back.

RE: R Class - Nap test!

I meant it as a compromise as a family hauler and for the sporty character inside. So the R-Class is much better, but can't find a reason to go for the V8? Why wasn't the E55 AMG Wagon on the MBUSA website?

RE: R Class - Nap test!

Well, I ordered the R350 with very specific upgrades..... in order to get an R500 the way I want it, would mean a few more months of delay.... not too interested in putting off the purchase that long... if I could find the perfect r500 available now, well then that would make me move up... despite the price/mpg difference.....

What about the full-option 500 that NevadaJack didn't take?? It might be that the dealer hasn't sold it yet........

Cheers,
Birger

If you want to follow up on that car..PM or email me. The $1K over invoice may still work if it isn't sold.

Understand where you are coming from. If FJ had treated me 10 years ago the way they treated me on the S deal....they would have had 3 sales in that 10 years. There is nothing like dealing local if they are fair with you.
