From R Class to S Class...easy transition

Well I went back to the local dealer today to see an S430 he called me about and lo and behold I drove it home. Yup...left 6 R Class cars sitting on the floor and outside (more in the basement showroom.) After sitting in the S and re-evaluating my needs and desires, I decided to go with the S. Got a good deal and a nice combination of options in a color I really like.

Here is a picture and a URL for some more. I will keep tuned to this forum to follow the R Class progress. I still think it is a great Mercedes car and will do well.

RE: From R Class to S Class...easy transition

We are eager to know what happened with R-Class. You might have the changed the R-Class configuration/order so many times that I was surprised that you did not get R-Class.

If I remember, you started with R350, and changed to R500 so you can get KeylessGo. Then with R500 you changed color configuration 10,000 times, going back and forth with Silver, Pewter, Alpine Rain, and then white.

Was it the vehicle, that you changed your mind? Did it not meet your expectation? It cannot be money, as S & R might be in the same range. As per your posts, health problems were to blame to cancel the order, but then you go and get S-Class, something does not fit right...

Please enlighten everyone...

No...that is the SIRIUS antenna. The newer models have it prewired and concealed but with the older ones it has to go on the trunk. They have redesigned the covering to be more aero rather than the square box earlier. I would prefer not to have it there but MB rules...:-)

Wait a minute, you said the newer models have it concealed. Isn't a 2006 a newer model?

The newer designed models...ML/R Class and I imagine the new 2007 S Class coming here in February will not have it showing.. This model was released in 1998 (someone check me on this) and had gone through several facelifts. Apparently MB decided it was too costly to change the harness and redisign the roof area for the sake of antenna.

Oh, ok, by newer model you were reffering to the 2007. Ok i got it. It still looks ugly. Should have put it on the roof or something.

You know you are giving me car envy.

I still don't have my R... and if we hadn't just bought the E... putting us in need of a larger 4wd suv type, I would get an S myself.... Might even want to wait for '07.

But I can't bare to drive my 540 through one more winter.

If the Cayenne had R class room, just for the passenger seats I would consider that too....

BUT, I guess the R is still perfect for what I need... wish the R500 had better gas mileage, cuz I covet the little extra power over the 350

All messed up :)

RE: From R Class to S Class...easy transition

I kinda know where you are coming from. All the time I was hyped on the R I kept looking at the new S and then at the 2006...priced it out, ignored it, went back...

Then after I drove the R (really liked it) but lost enthusiasm with the med report. When the rep called me on the S I was really not commited to it and thought I would look at the R again. But when I met the S430 close and personal I was hooked on it. The EPA on the S is 17/26 so probably a little better than the R but not enough to base a decision on.

So you will just have to bite the bullet one day and make a choice. They are all good[:D]
