Car had Airmatic, premium audio, I think, 3-zone climate control, and leather seating.
Driving impressions are pretty close to the ML350 we drove. The interior is quite nice, but I like the round vents on the W164 ML a bit better.
The car is extremely roomy inside, and I am comfortable even in the 3rd row. The car had the pano roof, which is a must, I think. I was surprised to see that the $60k car has a manual anti-glare interior mirror - it's the first time I saw one of those on a Mercedes.
Entry into the 3rd row is very easy, and leg room for 2nd and 3rd rows is great. Cargo area is better that I thought initially, but you'd be hard pressed to go away for a weekend with a family and all the seats up.
I found the ride fairly quiet inside, and the car was just ok power wise. My wife complained that she didn't get the same pick-up as with our ML430 while merging on the freeway. We would definitely rather get the R500.
One thing we noticed, is that it was very difficult to come to a gentle stop. The car always gave a little lurch after it came to a stop. It felt like the transmission going into neutral. While driving, the transmission is very smooth.
Interior finish did not put me off - even the vinyl visors weren't too bothersome - maybe I got used to it in our C Coupe [:)]. Everything seems quite solid.
I did notice that the turn signal relay was very loud - I thought the other posters were just too sensitive [:D], but that thing sure is loud!
We would definitely buy one if we were in the market now. After recently getting a new baby, our ML is pretty much full, so an extra seat or two would be great.
I also got a brochure from the dealer, and noticed there were two pics of rear seat video entertainment systems - one showed a single center mounter screen, like the W164, where the screen is mounted on a bracket attached to the front center console, and the other showed two headrest mounted screens. I wonder if the first pic is a mistake in the brochure?
Don't sweat it - remember, while test driving, one is more critical than normal, and we were also comparing it with our V8 ML430, which feels subjectively faster...
I'm sure you'll enjoy your new car when it is delivered, no matter which one you choose [:)].
looks like you were the happy guys and got your first own R-Class. Hope you are satisfied.
Can't wait for getting one, too. So I decided to buy the car in the states, where there are build anyway and already for sale.(I'm living in Germany, MB will sell them beginning next year)
Wondering if you could give me a hint if there is a way to get it cheeper than listed.
Dealers will try to get full price.... but I have not seen any other R Class on the road yet... except for mine.... so, I bet there are discounts to be had... especially if you take if off the lot...
Thanks Innhitman,
of course dealers what the max. But me too[:)]
may I ask you. Did you pay the full price?
And an other question: having a car of the first serie might have the risk of prototyp problems.Did you experienced some minor or mayor defects? Hope not.

Fletcher Jones has an invitation only party for the "Cubic Feat" (their words) R Class on the 27th with refreshments, etc. I may go to sample the food and see what inventory they have. They had several last Wednesday when I was their, including a white one.
