7 speed tranny problems on E?

I have been reading the E Class board and theere are many complaints about the 7 speed tranny and it's hard shifting... mostly down shifting.. I have to admit... it has me concerned about my pending R purchase.

RE: 7 speed tranny problems on E?

I have had several M-classes of the new generation (I am a dealer), and some (most) of them are like this for the first 1.000-1.500 miles untill the tranny "breaks in".

So this is nothing to worry about!

Ansan, thanks for your reply... but I still feel weird about this... 60K USD is a lot to pay for a possible problem...

I would prefer to hear more owners speak out... Has any owner had this problem then have it break in after 1500 miles?

RE: 7 speed tranny problems

Our 2006 ML350 (2,400miles)is currently at the dealer for its 1500-3000 mile check. One of the items I mentioned to them is the occassional hard down shifting at low speeds. They have had enough of the ML's with this problem that they now have to contact MB as to what type of fix MB recommends (reflash, valve control box or replacement of the transmission). I have not heard back yet as to which they are going to do. There has been enough discussion of this problem on the W 164 board to indicate that it is probably not a situation that will go away after 1000 - 1500 miles breakin period. From other posts it seems to be a problem that either exists or doesn't exist - not a problem that develops over time.

RE: 7 speed tranny problems

Hello again.

My private 06 ML350 was very much like this for the first 2.000 miles I would say. But it happened fewer and fewer times up until 2.000 miles where it disappeared totally. For the latest 3.000 miles it has not happened at all.

Thanks for doing free quality control testing for myself and my family.

I figure you will have all the bugs worked out by the time I am ready to buy an R.

We really appredciate the fact that you are willing to pay $70k for a fully loaded V6 only to deal with magic transmissions, etc.

I hope there is no etc.

I really do.

I think some people should reread their posts before 'sending'... then perhaps they'd change their mind and just delete it.
