R Class now available for drive away....

Spoke to my delaer this morning... I have about 3 weeks for my delivery... but he had at least one on the lot for sale.....

He hinted that I could buy that one, but it had fewer options... I'll wait.

So, I am sure we will be seeing these on the road real soon.... not just as test drives.

RE: R Class now available for drive away....

When I was at my dealers last week I asked him when the official release date was and he said they had authorization to sell them when they received them. He has several R500 due shortly and said he would call me to look at the Ash interior. But what inventory I looked at he had coming in did not have all the options I want so he will not be able to tempt me.

Anyway...they are a tight dealership and I would not come close to what I am getting in Gulfport regarding a deal.

Lexington, Ky, and Nashville, TN dealers have inventory. Most say forget the six and go for the eight. Heavy vehicle!

RE: R Class now available for drive away....

I drove the 6... it was fine... they may suggest the 8, if customers seem afraid of the 'lack of' power...

268 HP is still a lot.... I mean how soon/fast do you need all of this weight to move.

It will probably get you into more trouble than it gets you out of.

I suppose if you always travelled with a full load, you would 'need' the 8...

But normal everyday driving seemed fine for the 6, IMHO.

There is better gas mileage and many reviewers said the 6 was plenty peppy.

I had a Tahoe, with 255HP.... I didn't any more.... so I am sure that MB's 268 is even more refined.....

Do I feel slightly afraid that I will want the 8? Yes, but the ration side of me is winning, for once.

I'd rather put the extra money into options... like parktronic... and 3 zone climate control.... much rather have more fans running at slower speeds to cool the car, than fans blowing harder to reach the back. Also, the upgraded seats and NAV/airmatic are high on my list.

I am only writing this to make me feel better about my decision. Why did you have to go and post about the 8? :))))

Go with the 6 and feel good about it. I also drove it and it had plenty of off the line speed.

I only selected the 8 because I wanted the KG option...not because I wanted or needed the bigger engine.

RE: R Class now available for drive away....

For what it is useful...

When I bought my previous generation ML... I went with the same logic that 320 had enough power blah.. blah... blah...

I regretted not buying the ML 500. Now I do own ML 500 (163) and know what I was missing.

If you are choosing between the two based upon gas consumption.. than all I can say is penny wise and pound foolish...

Good luck to you all..

Yes, the 320 was underpowered.... 350 is better
