I was driving my 2000 S430 North on Highway 1 from my home in Carmel Higlands, CA and saw a caravan of 10 R Class vehicles going south from Carmel Valley toward Big Sur. My guess is that it was a Press Preview and we will be reading about this trip in the automotive press. It was quite a surprise to see the first one passing me, then I just kept counting as the others went past. We are anxiously waiting for our new 350 CLK which arrived at the port in Los Angeles on 7/11/05.
I saw an item on the web somewhere that there was a press conference with the R Class cars yesterday in N. Cal. So your guess is right where they were heading and why.
