Jack--
I'm seriously looking at the R500. However, I've heard some conflicting reports about the 2nd row center console. I've heard it is removable, but if you opt for the rear seat entertainment option, it is no longer removable. With 3 children in car seats, I need the 'walk thru' to the 3rd row that a removable console would provide. But with 3 young kids I need the DVD players just as bad!![:D]
HI RYAN,
if you order the rear seat emtertainment option, the dvd is located in the 2. row console, therefore it is no longer removable because all the power- and other cables are not to be disconnectable.
perhaps you don't order the rear entert. system and install a mobile dvd!

hi Ryan,
on the other hand I' m sure, that even if the rear-seat-entertainment is installed, you can remove the console! perhaps you only have to put connectors to all cables. DC would use 2 different systems for holding the console - already because of economical reasons!

Where did the information come from indicating that with the rear seat entertainment center, the console is not removeable?
Since there is no mention on that by MB and the normal access to the read seats is by folding the 2nd row seats forward, I would assume some type of "easy" connectors for the CD/DVD player. If the console was not removeable then the whole concept of the flat floor storage area would be lost.
Maybe I should re-phrase. The 2nd row center console contains the head unit for the DVD correct? I wanted to permanently remove that console to allow a walk-thru for my oldest child to the 3rd row. Assuming the DVD unit is stored in the console, I would not be able to use the OEM entertainment center.
Yes. I don't think there is any other option other than a after market where the DVD unit could be located somewhere else.
The walk-thru without the center console would probably be easier entry to the the 3rd row. I don't know the exact procedure to fold the seat for 3rd row access like you get in a coupe.
You can still have the center console without the entertainment center as a stand-alone option ($400)
