RE: Wheel Selection for the R500

The AMG 19" wheel is not currently available as an option, nor is the $4500 AMG Option which includes some trim changes, 19"wheels and some chrome. They both show delayed availability.

The more I look at both of them I like the 5 Twin Spoke more...it seems to go with the car more than the thin spoked 10 wheel. I will probably go with the standard 5 Twin Spoke....

Thanks for the input...

have you already decided the colour of your car? I think it also might be important for your joice of wheels!

Yes and no on a color choice. It will be either Iridium Silver or Alpine Blue. The Alpine Blue is a pale powder blue metallic much lighter than the E Class Platinum Blue.

Is "pale powder blue metallic" a dark or light blue?

I think, with a dark colour like black, dark green or blue or grey the R looks fantastic! What about the new colour-typ "Nano", they say, this material is 200% stronger and avoids scratches. Is this a option in the US?

I have decided on Pewter which is the same as I have on my E Class 320
Sport. Also have selected the 5 Twin Spoke (standard) Wheel.

The paint is the "Nano" but not the new Alu-Beam (?) used on the concept versions. This is down the road and may be used first on the new S Class.

RE: Wheel Selection for the R500

Hi,

- and a belated Happy Independence Day to you all US-side!!

Today, at a local MB dealership here in SW France, I saw the "shrunk" version of the "R" - the "B" to be clear - with the 10-spoke wheels. It looks WAY better than with the standard 5-spokers. I think that the 10-spokers will be easier to clean, too.

Thanks to a very forthcomÃ*ng salesperson we also got a good look at a genuine sample of the new Alpine Rain color for the W164/251. We do now not a moment regret our choice - it's VERY nice.

In comparison, IMHO (and that, more important, of my significant other [;)]) the Pewter, though an improvement on the usual silver grey, should be reserved for places where the sun shines 100% and it never rains - it's kind of dull.

Kind regards from France,
Birger

RE: Wheel Selection for the R500

Thanks for the birthday wishes...we are youngsters over here.

By the "shrunken version of the R" you should not confuse that with the LWB and SWB of the R. The B is a completely different animal. The LWB will be the US car and the SWB will be the EU car.

I agree the 10 spoke will be easier to clean but seeing in pictures on the R500 ane R350, it looks somewhat "frail" so I have settled on the 5 Twin Spoke.

As far as the Pewter goes, I have Pewter on my current E Class and it always looks great...and yes the sun shines 340 days of the year here and it never rains (4" a year.) I was interested in the Alpine Rain and it looks very nice but I ended up just not wanting a blue car.

I have seen many shots of the B Class and it is a great looking set of wheels. I think if they decide to bring it here it will be a big success.

BTW...it is 108 degrees here today and the Pewter doens't look "dull" ...:-))))

RE: Wheel Selection for the R500

Hi, Jack

Of course I'm aware of the SWB and LWB versions of the "R" - I was just joking [;)]

You're completely right that under the Nevada sun, the Pewter wil look very much different from here in Northern Europe - we have too many days where the sky itself is pewter-colored!

Filling up the W163 yesterday in Spain (cheaper across the border) we saw a pewter E-Class, and as it was quite overcast it wasn't exactly striking - but then no color apart from canary yellow would be in those conditions.

Good luck with your "R" - unfortunately the LWB is too big for almost any garages/carports here, and the short one is a little too much of a compromise. My wife will probably be getting a "B" in a not too remote future.

Greetings from the French Basque Country
Birger
