Well, basically yes. The Chrysler Pacifica was partly designed by Mercedes engineers, has a lot of Mercedes parts, e.g. the All Wheel Drive System and the rear Axel are straight from Mercedes.
I was attemtping to not respond to this thread in order to not begin another Pacifica vs R discussion but I will jump in briefly.
Yes the Pacifica and R are similar in design. By that I mean looks. They have the same functionality which is being a tourer for six passengers.
I have personally driven a Pacifica and seen in person a production version R500. I can tell you without a doubt there is absolutely no comparison in quality between the two.
Yes, the Pacifica shares some underpinnings with Mercedes (E class I believe) but nothing on the outside or inside for that fact. They do not share the same platform nor drivetrain. The R is much larger and roomier on the inside than the Pacifica.
To compare a Pacifica to R Class would be like comparing a Chevy Pickup to a Ford Pickup...similar in function but completely different otherwise. Its not like comparing a Toyota Camry with Lexus ES330 where there is a similar if not identical platform, drivetrain, engine but different body panels and dash. Honda Accord vs Acura TL, etc. You get the picture?
The closest thing you could compare to the R would be a 2006 ML which it is based on.

Lack of funds always seems to bring out some negative responders with comments like 'ugly" and it "looks like a Chrysler." There are those who have a problem with some aspects of the R and explain their feelings in that regard very well. But the other who just bash and make stupid remarks are the ones who probably never owned a MB or never will.
By the way... I saw the two pics he posted..... Do you think they look like twins...? I don't.... unless one really got the short end of the stick in the 'looksl department.
The picture of the R is form one of my postings (I did the crop and added the caption. I think also I posted the picture of the Pacifica somewhere to show the difference between the two. You are right...they must be UN-identical twins...LOL
This is in no way to continue the Rclass vs Pacific thread, but some immature adults seem to have idiotic comments and apparently need to quench their thirst that only their opinion should be seen and heard on a "public" forum.
I like the comment "lack of funds" when you do not know me or what I do for a living, and its astonishing this even matters.
Keep in mind I am not the one who recently posted you cancellation of your Rclass order. Who is the one lacking funds?
Pay attention to what you say next time before you make your next personal revelation to everyone.
Yes i driven most vehicles on the road these days with exception of a few elite supercars legal for US highways. There are also many many cars I have not driven that are exclusive to other countries. I dont know why this is relevant to this topic of me not liking the Rclass?
I have test driven the Rclass also. Its not really impressive to me. The 500 model is ok, for the money there is no excitement I am sorry you feel differently. Thats what personal choice, American freedom & expression is all about.
Again, excuse me for having an opinion.
Funny how you rave about the Rclass when some of the major auto mags seem its a far cry from where Benz needs to be headed. Motor Trend and European car both pissed on it somewhat. I have subscriptions to both, why dont you check them both out. I have no reason to lie. And yes i read these articles after my test drive; and I made my personal opinion to decide that I really do care less about this particular vehicle.
Again, excuse me for having an opinion.
The only promising model Rclass is the AMG, in which I usually only buy AMG models. Maybe i will change my mind when this model is available. I never say never.
If you ever want to play who has the biggest stable, let me know and we can compare your apples to mine. Anytime friend.
