The GST or code name Chrysler Pacifica. Is mercedes catering to soccor moms now? This is pathetic. Chyrsler is slowly and slowly destroying the prestige of Mercedes Benz. The C Class loos EXACTLY like a CLK, the interior of an E Class DRAMATICALLY smaller than the previous model, the SL isnt as hot as the previous model when it debuted, the S Class is still boring as ever and now mercedes is copying off of BMWs Idrive. When I sit inside ANY new Mercedes Benz model I feel like im not sitting inside a german car no more. Its pathetic.
Daimler initiated a hostile take over and has gotten the use of a huge multinational production and sales resource and lost its boutique cachet. As a result it can move more products into a lot of different venues. Yeah their making more cash now but product is turning to crap. Ask any ML owner and read the latest JD Power report.
Chrysler was making class leading innovative vehicles like the 300M, Durango, Ram, PT Cruiser, Sebring, Intrepid and Concorde before Benz soaked them up. Chrysler has improved in some ways but lost its initiative.
Benz has gotten more available but is losing it exclusivity.
This shit never works remember the Merkur.

I couldn't agree more samurai.MB has not been the same since the late eighties and early nineties after the engineers lost control of the company. Now it is even worse.
Porsche did it too when they introduced the Boxster, its the ML of the Porsche lineup. Then again, they brought out the Carrera GT, M-B has the SLR, but that made their image worse in my opinion. Now all the customers say, "Hey, if they can make an SLR they should also manage to make a decent SUV, I mean, even Kia can do it." They should also start making their cars with aluminum, they are getting really heavy. Look at the midsize W211, its like 4100 lb, then, look at the full size Jag XJ sedan, 3800 lb. where did the extra 300 lb come from?
But the ML has some huge quality differences depending on where it is made. You have the gas versions made at the Tuscaloosa-plant (except AMG).
The quality from that plant is crap. And it has that saggy suspension. You could buy a Grand Cherokee instead, and save the rest of your money. The CDI versions made at Magna Steyr has got a much higher quality. And it has a more firm and precise suspension. Try a ML320 or 500, and compare it to the 320 or 400CDI. It is like night and day. Of course the 400CDI can't beat the pull of the 500.But it's almost the same at low rpm's. But there is a 300hp CDI around the corner.

What are you smoking? I drive both CDI from Graz and gas ML from Vance. Day and night? And big bad crocodiles eat SLKs. [}:)]

[:D]Yes, but if the CDI is imported to the U.S. It is probably tuned for the U.S. market. And that means saggy highway suspension. Here in Europe we have the US-made gas version, and the Euro-made (for the Euro-market) CDI versions. And here the differences are significant. The CDI is definitvly more "truck-like" and firm. But also better handling and grip. I don't know what Chevy's you have driven, but the difference is like the difference between the G20 and G30 van's. Or the 1500 and 2500 truck. And i don't smoke...[:D][xx(]
