RE: A true example of why mercedes is cheap now

MB should NOT make the GST. Period!

Enough with the suvs and crossovers!!

The G wagon is an off-road beast though and should be kept.

The E class wagon and C class wagon are already great cars and come with 2wd and awd.

I'm glad a car make decided to reduce weight of their luxury cars. Hopefully others will follow Jaguar with their aluminum XJ.

Reducing pointless gizmos helps too though.

I've heard the new BMW 5 series has a turn signal feature that turns the signal off when you have passed the corner and don't need it blinking. Who really needs that?

My brother just bought an ML350 and sadly I have to say that I was more impressed with the Kia Sorento....What was mercedes thinking?!?![B)]

They made the G-Wagon about 30 years ago, and it still is one of the best SUV's around!

Easy[8D]

Yup, for a long time we have had that feature. Trust me when I say it is necesssary if you have ever driven behind someone going down the freeway/street with their blinker on, going nowhere! It drives you insane after a while.

The turn signal system on the new 5 series is different.

It turns off on certain odd turns when you need it to stay on.

With the BM's you don't fully click the stalk all the way over to activate it. All you have to do is tap it and it will blink a few times and then it will turn off.

I've heard that this feature is on the new E's from July 2004 as well.

ok i think we can all agree that the vision sucks and that the Gelandewagon is awesome because at heart it is a military vehicle. Of course if you pick up the new Car and Driver (August 04) you will see the new G-class. Unlike Hummer which introduced a new model which was an abomination and kept the old standby Mercedes seems to be taking the old and disposing of it entirely. Of course the new M-class and G-class look damn near identical so what the hell is the point? Scrap one and keep the other, i assume they look the same because they are due to come out of the same Alabama plant. and as far as true truck performance leave all that to the Ford F-Series pickups the best trucks on the market. Built Ford Tough

MB should get rid off the excess models and esp. the vision and the ML.
What? Excess models?

Why all the hate about the GST? Its a new crossover, with an innovative diesel/electric hybrid that sounds interesting! I suppose that's the history of innovation - it always starts with ridicule from the masses.

Don't want a GST? Fine, don't buy it.

What's up with your hate of the ML? I have a '98 with 182,000 miles on it. I've made several coast-to-coast trips with it, including a nice 45-hour drive from Phoenix to NC. Stable, solid, innovative, versatile ...

So you don't need an SUV - that's fine! Other people do. "Excess models"? Hardly.

BTW, I've visited the factory at Vance, and was very impressed! As far as your US vs. German manufacturing quality, remember that the German factory workers are primarily immigrants (e.g. Turks, etc.). Its all about the engineering.

What do you drive, Rick? I see no mention in your profile or your empty gallery.
