B200 Trailer Hitch Success in Toronto

Success! I have just bought a 2009 B200 and wanted a trailer hitched installed. MB has a factory one, but they don't sell it in Canada. Went searching for aftermarket. Since the B200 is not sold in the US and all the hitches you can get here are from the US none are available the manufactures don’t know the hitch exist, therefore they don't have one.

Found some great info here on the forum that directed me to start to get a little creative.

Option One: Bring a hitch in from the EU. Would work but would need to do some modifications and the cost to get it here was become very expensive.

Option Two: Custom made hitch. Success!

Went to a place call Vangro Welding (726 Dundas Street East, Mississauga, ON, 905-279-6082).

Ed Groot the owner custom made a hitch. Better yet he made it like the ones in the EU. Total hidden!

Just like the factor hitch the receiver connects vertically up through the bumper. When not using the hitch no evidence their is a hitch installed.

With receiver installed I can use a 2" pinto adapter for bike racks or for pulling a small unity trailer.

I had the same issue as you while trying to find a utility roof rack. They (MB or Thule) wouldn't bring it in from the other side of the pond,....so I made my own for our kayaks. Hope to see your installation soon.

There are many ways to get your pics in here. One way is to get them into your computer. Once that's done you can go to "Advanced" here and then to "Manage Attachments" below. If you need more help from there,.. then just ask us here.

I have added some pictures. With and without the hitch. The entire job took around 4 hours. It's not cheap ($400) but when looking at some the prices of bringing over a hitch from the EU this was a lot cheaper. I left the instructions on how to take the bumper off with Ed at Vangro Welding. (Got them from another post)

That is quite nice; I think some of the European designs are hidden but all the same, the price is very right!

We made it in the EU style. When not in use it's totally hidden, when you need to tow a trailer or use the bike rake, insert the receiver up into the mounting unit, install the pin and your done.

Getting the pin in does require lying on your black and reaching up and installing the pin. Its not a "quick release type" like the factory one, but it has all the same features and function.
