What's wrong with my B?

First of all, thanks everyone for sharing your experience and advice on winter tires. Folks on this forum are so nice.

One more question for you folks. This morning I drove my B turbo and all of sudden I felt the gas pedal so tight and I need to use pressure twice as much as before to accelerate the car. I called one of Benz dealer in Ottawa, they said so busy and did not have time to look at it.

Did anyone have the same experience or have some idea what's going on? I have to wait until Monday to see the dealer. Will it be still safe to drive the car around during the weekend?

Many thanks!

I think this thread should be "whats wrong with my dealer", what a terrible attitude for them to have 'to busy to look at it'.

Hope when Monday comes they can be bothered to sort it out Paul

Please post their findings.

If the engine does not return to idle immediately you could have a major problem.

Did you look for anything that may be in the way such as floor mats?

Hi Bill,

What do you mean by "If the engine does not return to idle immediately"?

Thanks.

Hi Paul

You wrote that there was resistance to depressing the accelerator pedal to increase speed (engine RPM) if the reverse also happened ie: you took your foot away from the accelerator and the speed did not drop (engine rpm ) it could be dangerous.

Put the car in neutral or park and speed engine up to 3000 RPM, take your foot off the pedal and the rpm's should drop almost instantly down to 800 or 900 RPM.

The throttles are 'fly-by-wire' so there is nothing but connectors attached to the throttle pedal. Its a rheostat - perhaps some gunk got into it?

Thanks God, it turns out the floor mats really get in the way. OOPS.

Thanks, everyone.

Better that than something serious. Pity the dealer didn't suggest checking that they must surely have come across it before.

Good think you did not go to the dealer. They would probably have it for a week Glad everything is OK.

My winter rubber mats have caused the clutch pedal to catch a few times,...so always check to see that they haven't moved with you sliding in,... and your feet pushing against them, causing the mat to move a bit forward and into the path of a pedal.
