I think everyone knows what this is. So my question is, with the price of fuel where it is right now, have any of you changed your driving style, and have any of you adopted any hypermiling practices? Do share if you have.
I for one am more gentle on the gas pedal, and have been anticipating stop lights and general traffic flow a lot more lately. One general rule in extending your gas mileage is try try and coast along as long as possible and avoid the dreaded stop lights. That kills your fuel mileage. Considering I drive almost exclusively around the city, this is sometimes a challenge.
Avoid running and gunning from stop light to the next. Slow and steady wins the fuel consumption race.
Mike, you are excluded from this thread since you hypermile along on your bike anyway.
I believe it was UPS that advised all of its drivers to only make right hand turns - no left turns - because it was faster and more fuel efficient.
I'll think about it before trying it out.
I try to drive efficiently by doing several tasks on one trip and avoiding multiple cold starts. I go with the flow of traffic and anticipate red lights etc and I try to avoid the worst days and times for traffic congestion if possible. We are fortunate to live within walking distance of all essentials and can go for weeks without using a car if we want or or need to.
Ditching the spare tire, tools, and running around town with windows closed, and no fan on. Just imagine what a hardcore hypermiler's car smells like at the height of summer?

What kind of smell do you expect from anal-retentive people.
I'm not so sure that the Prius is the "greener" car out there.
People seams to forget the amount of chemical involved in Batteries + what about the production process and the after life of this technology ... isn't more polluting ?
Gas mileage is good in the city yea, but it ain't that great on highway.
This is a great video about a BMW saloon against a Prius ... who wins ?

Not to mention that Priusses (or Prii ) seldom make the factory mileage. Most priusses have average milages, because the car is quite heavy due to the battery. And a Prius on the highway is not economical, if you drive lots of hghway a diesel is still the best choice.
