I just received this message from a friend which praises MB safety technology. They have a 2007 C Class.
"On the way home to my mom's 85th birthday, we hit a deer about 130 miles from home in western Maryland. The deer was really a large one. It jumped right in front of the Mercedes which was set on cruise control at 70 MPH. The deer had been in the median and was not visible until it jumped into the road because of the high weeds and small scrub trees. I don't think he/she ever saw the car. Fortunately the deer hit the front of the car at an angle and the tremendous speed, no time to brake, and sloped design of the Mercedes front scooped the deer up and threw it over the right front side without it touching the windshield or roof. We were not hurt, the car suffered superficial damage, and we could drive to a repair shop. After reporting the dead deer to the state trooper, he came to the scene to give us a control number for insurance purposes and inform us we were but the first victims that day. He says it happens everyday, and we were really lucky that we were not hurt and the car was intact, more or less.
...I hope you never hit anything like a big deer, but I will tell you that the safety features of the Mercedes will probably pull me back again for the next car. The car did not act up after hitting the deer, no swerving or danger of losing control, airbags knew the impact was such they did not need to deploy, and the seat belts stopped us from moving forward in a very soft restraining manner. I think the car will run like new too based on the bodyshop and my Mercedes dealer comments. "
I have just been reminded why I like MB cars.
