I have recently moved to La Belle etc. and in order to obtain a set of Quebec plates, I have to have my 2008 B inspected! How do you spell 'tax grab?' Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this? Is some neanderthal going to dismantle my new car? Will I have to go to the dealer immediately to set their interference back to where it should be?
Needless to say, I am concerned and disgusted. Why doesn't the program exempt cars still on warranty? I have heard that the local bureaucrats couldn't run an 'ot dog stand - is this too harsh? Should I just go back to the coast?
If you did open a ot dog stand you would be shut down quickly by the OLF, if that was your sign.
Too many double functionaires and too many societies and no money left over for road or bridge repair.
This inspection should be quick and they won't destroy the B.
Pay the bill, get the form, and you're in business. Watch out for the potholes.
Cheers, Derek and welcome to Quebec!(the highest taxed province or state in North America) Yeh!! What do we win!!

I think all provinces do the same thing. I remember when I had to have my car (about 5 years ago) inspected when I moved from Quebec back to BC. I had to pay to have the car certified in BC including an extra charge to have the tint in my front windows removed since it is illegal in BC to have tinted front windows.
That post does seem a bit fraught, but I had just come back from the license bureau where it took about 2+ hours to get a driver's license for $154. I suppose that all the provinces are the same although Quebec is an easier target - the fee, I would probably pay in Vancouver, but the dismantling and the hoist gives me the creeps with my 'new' B.
I have a wheel alignment scheduled for next week, thanks to the potholes, no doubt, [covered on warranty 8^)] and I have a 'cricket' in my transmission, plus a stinky air conditioner, all to be fixed on warranty.
Oh yeah, last year a moronic woman shot out of a driveway and nailed me in my Golf, 100% her fault, but the insurers here call it a "claim" and are screwing me for insurance. That was another surprise, that my insurance goes up even though it was NOT MY FAULT! AAaarrrgggghhhh!
Anyway, Je suis un Quebecer, maintenant or is that Quebecois? (most of my French...I'm working on it).
If you're worried about damaging your B on a garage lift when not at the dealer, remember that the B has 4 perfect rubber lift points accessible from the side.
Your B should be lifted on those rubber pads and no damage will take place.
Well, when I went to the inspection place, they rejected me because the car was so new, the final insurance papers had not come from ICBC so they would not inspect it with photocopied proof of insurance (this after an RCMP officer said to photocopy my documents, white-out the name and keep the originals at home in case of another break-in and subsequent identity theft). After taking time off work and waiting 3 days for the appointment. I'm ashamed to say I called the pompous little jerk a pompous little jerk for wasting everyone's time, which annoyed him a bit so I may have to find another inspection place for when I finally get around to it... No wonder people buy guns and start shooting in the streets - dealing with the SAAQ is enough to drain away all vestiges of that thin layer of civilization that we all supposedly have.
Like I said before!!... Welcome to Quebec and another somewhat useless Societe.SAAQ
Remember, many of the VP's at another useless Societe "SAQ" were fired when caught scamming the public.
Your games in this province have only begun. It also helps when you speak the official language here.
Keep you options open.
If the roads don't get you, the bureaucracy might.
