B Class as a load carrier

What unusual loads do you use your B for ?

Photos of mine before holiday and waiting for luggage to be put in.

The items carried are a Wheelchair & a 4 wheel mobility walker.

On return the boot was filled from floor to roof with 4 people, luggage,
and all the silly bits we buy on holiday.

PS the 'tube' running from under the rear bumper is pipe lagging to stop the paint getting marked by the cable from a custom made plug & socket that I have fitted under the boot. This powers the LED stop / tail light units on the modified bike carrier.

Boy Oh Boy!! That is quite the set up Keith.
That is one wonderful looking rear rack!!
Was is custom made for the B?
Do you transfer your plate to the rack?

Our B does have many useful configurations.
Derek

The rack is the one the Thule range designed for MPVs or vehicles with fairly upright rear doors (ie vans). The main frame is universal & you order you order the fixings to suit your car (actually due to the large adjustment range the fixings will fit a range of cars).
It is very similar to the M/B product (which I think may also be made by Thule) but just over a third of the price. (about £120 as against £300 odd)
You can get different wheel frames & I think that you can mount up to 4 Bikes.
Our wheelchair weighs about the same as a medium weight mountain bike and the walker about 2/3rds of a bike so I am well within the weight limit.
I have lowered my wheelrack for easy loading but in that position it does obscure the number plate hence the additional plate fixed to the walker. Also being lower down it is more aerodynamic and does not affect the handling or fuel consumption too much.

The rear number plate stays on the car as the dealer made me up a spare when I bought the car. Wish I had asked him for an EU plate now (ie one with GB on) for continental touring as I am hoping to give the B a trip back home to Germany in the Autumn (Fall).
