Sounds like that was downhill, with a tail wind & an over reading speedo * (10%) as road tests claim the Peugot 136 bhp 406 auto having a max speed of about 202 KPH which is roughly on par with the 200CDI manual. * In the UK 10% would only just be the permissible amount for speedo to over read & I gather this is the same for Australia.
Yeah it was downhill. The speedo was ~3% fast, same as the B 200.
I verified it in a few of those "you are doing X km/h" signs in France, of course on the lower end of the speed range! So the actual speed was 215-216 km/h (134 MPH). A little more would have been nice!
8.16 overall, a bit over 4700 km in three weeks, average highway speed 140-170 km/h in Germany, 135 in France and lots of city driving, for 1/3 of the time, five up and crammed with luggage. I'm not sure the B 200 would have done much better in the circumstances. I would like to try though!
No tickets that I know of. In France we were 100% complying to the limits (accounting for the 3% error) and in Germany too.
The speed limit-free sections of Autobahn are getting rarer, but when they appear it can be a gas. For example, the stretch from Würzburg to Heilbronn is a race track.
Was reading a copy of Car and Driver at a Doctor's office (surprisingly fairly recent) and was reading reviews and performance of several 4 cylinder cars and the B Class had better 0-60 times than all of them, turbo or normally aspirated. Better economy as well. Also had reviews of the Evolution and WRX, but they did much better, can't win them all
