Sunroof question

I think that the B Class is a terrific car - well designed, well engineered and a tonne of fun.

One area lacking though (unless I am missing something, which could be highly likely...) is in the area of sunroof functionality.

Three things in particular:

1. I don`t seem to be able to open the roof with an auto-open feature. My windows including rear windows can open just by pulling the appropriate button, but the roof button has to be held until completely open. This leads to

2. For some reason, you have to let go of the button, then pull again in order for the sunroof to open. This seems weird to me. The first pull simply opens the vent (and not even 100% open, more like 50%). I have to let go, then pull again until open all the way.

3. When I get to my destination, I have to keep the car turned on to close the sunroof. My windows will happily close with the car turned off and key removed, but not the sunroof. In fact, I have to put the key back in and almost start the car again before the roof power will engage.

Am I missing something, or should I just focus on the fact that it is terrific weather finally in Toronto and relax about the roof - rejoice that it is nice enough to open the roof.

If you go to Overview - overhead control panel at: www4.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars/b-class/betriebsanleitung/ueberblick/dachbedieneinheit.html

"1. The panorama louvred sliding sunroof stops in the ventilation position. Press and hold the switch in the direction of arrow 1 until it has reached the required position. To close, press and hold the switch in the direction of arrow 2 until the panorama louvred sliding sunroof* is closed."

So MB wanted you to have more control over the opening and closing. I agree a one-push button would be more convenient.

Hi

You can use the recirculating switch to open all or close all windows including the sunroof. Push and hold for a few seconds. Also when you are outside the car aim the key at the drivers door handle and push and hold the lock button, windows and roof will close.
Depending on wind noise and speed it is nice for the sunroof vent to have manual control and not open fully all the time. I find that opening the front vent and opening the back windows slightly gives good air flow and eliminates the noise from the wind.
Wish we had some better weather so our roof could be fully opened.

I usually use the fob in the summer to close the roof, I wish it could be pointed from any where not just "at" the driver's door or turn the car off , turn the key to the first detent (elec. power) and then close it, as not to waste fuel.

Anthony

PS Hey BeeClass I hope you don't mind my new avatar, I'm not copying it just I liked the idea of a "killer bee". I still might change my licence plate to "KILLERB".

That is a great avatar. Two more Bs and we will have colony .
It would make a good license plate too. Nicely done.

Like your avatar, would make a great sticker for all our cars especially the turbos.

But I think that BeeClass will get more honey with his avatar

Remember the Dodge Superbee of the 70's!
If I use that one, then we'll have our colony.

ps: My avatar looks all wrong seeing as I don't have a turbo!

If I were to get a new license plate or rejoin this forum, I would use the name 'Honey B' .

Now that we are getting all these Bee's who should we see as our "Queen Bee"?
We do have 3 at least as our Queen "to be".
