Thanks Martman, how are you enjoying yours a week or so down the road? (pun intended )
Really enjoying the B. Sometimes it feels like I'm driving something a lot bigger car. Nothing beats the refinement and quality of driving a Mercedes Benz product.
Thanks too to kdbcom for sharing the link to accessories for the B.
If your not worried about the individual track control the basic aux in works fine you can adjust the volume from the steering wheel. Beauty of it is it works for any device MP3 players, Ipod, tape players, whatever. Plus it doesn't cost anything it's already there. All you need is a male to male connecting cable costing about £1 on ebay.
I know this has been discussed at length, but I'm still confused. When you refer to "male to male" cable do you mean it connects to male plugs? I prsume not; I take it you mean a 'female to female' connecting cable, ie a cable with male ends that connects to female plugs at either end. Presumably one end will be the MP3 player or some such ... have I got this right?
re the radio, with all the variants out there. I'm in Canada, presumably I've got the '20' and when I push CDC for a little while AUX Acitive does appear on the screen. Where exactly is this, presumably, female end of the cable coming from the radio? Do I need to remove the glove box to find it??
Do you have a 2008 model? All 2008s come standard with the MP3/IPOD jack in the glove compartment. If so, you should find the 'female' jack in the glove box (upper left hand corner) beside the round glove box cooling port. This female jack is similar to the jack where you would normally plug your standard 'male' end of a typical head set for example.
The male to male cable is a 'prong' like devise that connects the car's system with your MP3 player/IPOD. Female connectors - in this case are the holes you will find in the glove compartment of the B as well as in your ipod which the male connectors get inserted into.

Hope that made sense?
sure it does, I guess my uncertainty stemmed from
(i) what is meant by 'male to male' cable. I would have interpreted that to mean a cable that connects male pins to male pins. Clearly I err. I would have called a cable that connects female jacks a 'female to female' cable. Oh well, at least now I know it refers to the ends of the 'cable' itself rather than what it connects to.
(ii) presence/absence of jacks in the car. Mine is actually a '06 without any jacks in the glovebox. Presumably I have to splice into the wiring harness itself or find the plug on the wiring harness that supplies me with the AUX input, as has been described elsewhere in the forum already. I guess I was hoping that the female jack might be luking behind the glovebox already
Well, many thanks to you all, you have saved me $920! I bought the "all male" 3.5mm lead (sorry Guenter, I think it was me causing the confusion) plugged in my Ipod Shuffle, pressed CDC until Input Active was displayed and Voila! Perfect.
