I have the auto on function - I leave the switch in that position and the lights go on and off automatically whenever the light level reaches the high / low threshold.
It is a nice feature to have.
Hey BeeClass, what does it use for DRLs? Do you have factory xenon? My lights are on all the time, but I swear I have driven behind another B and it looked like the rear parking/marker lights were off during the day. Mine are always on. It may have been that I just could not see them or maybe that has something to do with the auto on. Anyone else notice that?
It seems that cars exported to Canada don't have a standard lighting set up. I can see different countries having different specs but to have regional differencies seems most odd. Are DRLs standard throughout Canada ?
DRLs are required on all new vehicles manufactured for sale in Canada since Dec 1 1989, but only for a set of front lights. You don't have to have all the lights on. I'm not sure but I think cars that have the "auto on" (light sensor) or maybe factory HIDs don't turn on the rear parking lights unless the light is low enough. I think if you have a more basic model like me, all the lights are on all the time. Can anyone confirm this?
All Canadian cars must have DRLs now.
Pages 104 - 106 refer. The DRls are always on and provide low beams.
In the 'Auto" mode, the following lights switch on and off automatically depending on the brightness of the ambient light:Tail and parking lights, License plate lights and Side marker lights.
Having reread the manual, noting the headlights could turn off if the sensor is subjected to bright oncoming traffic, I will manually switch the headlights from 'Auto" to 'On' for night driving and rely on the 'Auto' setting only for daylight use in tunnels or other short or unexpected conditions of darkness.
