I have my b-class at last and driven it in the rain for the first time today. I want to know if (in the UK) anyone has reversed the wiper blades so that the long one wipes the drivers side?
Is it possible or will it clash or cause the wiper sensor to not function correctly?
That's shabby if they haven't reversed the blade length for RHD! However, the mechanism's linkage may not allow for it - the longer blade has to park on top, I think.
Even in a LHD car, the unswept part of the screen at the top right is a little annoying. Let us know if it'll work!
Hadn't really given it a thought Matt having the blue 'sunstrip' at the top of the screen means you only really have about 1" unswept of usable viewable glass. But as Mike says it is a bit shabby and it does not give the driver the benefit of the maximum area wiped. Perhaps no one has thought of it before, would it be worth taking it up with your dealer and see what response you get from him??
Add a couple of layers of folded masking tape to the tip of the wiper to match the longer wiper and see if the tape touches on the movement of the blades.
That way you'll see if it in fact makes contact with the other blade. If it touches, then the tape will bend and no damage done.
Derek
I always use RainX treatment on the windshield and all windows and I fill RainX washer fluid in the reservoir.
With RainX treated windows, most of the rain water will simply bead off the windshield at normal driving speeds, without even using the wipers. It is one of those rare products that works better than advertised.
Brilliant thinking Derek, just tried your suggestion conclusion :-
Do Not Swap Your Wiper Blades Over
They Will Collide I You Do.
"Brilliant thinking Derek"..... maybe there's a flaw in my thinking.
You said that the tape touched. Did you compensate for the fact that the untaped wiper blade is now too long as it should now be replaced with the short blade.
You would really need a 2nd short blade in place to see if it really touches.
Or you could put a piece of masking tape at the exact length of the shorter blade and "guessstimate" as the taped blade sweeps across the other.
Maybe I'm making this too complicated for nothing.....
It collided half way allong the wiper blade so however long or short the other blade is it will still collide (unless of course the blade were less than half its present length).
I think your "brilliant thinking" was right in the first place Derek
