I find that my B has a much firmer ride than I expected.
They said that the shocks were adaptive but they haven't adapted yet (but I have).
Your focus would have had a softer ride.
If you have to stow plenty of gear but don't need the height; then think about the Outback(It's a sleeper). My .02 cts+

Interesting. I find the ride quite compliant perfectly between firm and soft. I actually wish my X3 rode as nice. It's a little bouncier.
I need to get this off my chest: this is the "I'm looking for a B but am concerned with the requirement for premium fuel" thread, correct? Why does everybody (except me!) have to 'quote' the previous poster's posting? Surely we haven't such short attention spans that we can't remember the topic or what the previous poster wrote? Wading through all the 'quotes,' that I have read once and will likely not re-read (I do know how to scroll, if I have a senior's moment, and need to refer back) spoils the experience of reading all the good things that are posted here - and there really is some good stuff in here somewhere!
I love my B but it rides like a tank in front - I am going to get the dealer to stare at it and see if the shocks are shot, or binding, or whatever.
The other car she is looking at most seriously is the Prius, primarily for the mileage. If you look at pricing, the Prius is $29,500. The B-Class is $29,900. Looked briefly at the vw.ca site and the current (non-wagon) Jetta TDI is $26K and change. I suspect the wagon will be a few grand more.
So all these cars are in the same ballpark price-wise. The Prius has the edge on gas mileage. A TDI would be the winner on longevity, I suspect. The B has the edge in feel and safety.
I have owned a 2004 Prius and it was quite a boring car to drive. I averaged about 7.5 l per 100 Km. The new next generation Prius promises a better battery pack and greater electric only range which will improve economy. The Prius' have proven very reliable and low maintenance.
If the B is not to your liking, then maybe the coming Golf/ Jetta with the 140 hp diesel would be a better choice.
True: the seats are awful, there is no headroom in the back and the trim quality would not be out of place in a 1970s Airfix model kit box. Good FE potential though.
