CD Holder removal info required.

Antony that is an Aux in socket fitted to mid 07 cars on (UK anyway) it is for MP3s, Ipods, etc it does not give any track names on the display though, just an audio signal into the radio/CD unit.

jtcb it is designed so you can keep anthing in the glovebox cool (from the aircon) ie drinks, sandwiches etc. The French MPVs seem to implement this feature better some keep the drinks almost ice cool.

I don't think that vent hole in the glove box cool stuff that good if it is what it is for. I think the Dodge Caliber has a better cooling glove box and is made specially for drinks.. but I think it is a waste of space and use of the glove box.

I agree with you but if one maker puts them in the others have to follow suit and yes the storage spaces on the B class are abysmal compared to other manufacturers.

Off topic here but related to the hole. I notice there is another hole inside the glove box. I am not talking about the vent hole knob. It is located on the sidewall of the vent knob. It has a sticky foam feel to it. I can't see it, but I can feel there is a hole in there.

I was trying to put some emergency food in the glove box. It feels warm after I went shopping. I am sure I turn the vent to the close position after reading about this vent hole in this thread. I thought somewhere inside must be leaking warm air so I feel my hand around. That's how I discover this hole.

Any idea what it is for?

That is where the aux-in connector goes (or IPOD connector). The sticky part is the foam that covers the entire back-side of the glove box. I assume it is for heat and noise reduction.

So that hole is there for a purpose? They should have cover it with something for those didn't opt for the ipod even though you can't actually see the hole. Another cost cutting I guess? Thanks Jeff for the info.

Those 4 round caps in the front, cover the 4 screws with a couple more screws underneath.
A little tricky, is making sure the ventilation tube is reconnected as you push it back to the screw holes.

For any one interested the CD holder is held in by plastic clips in square holes and to remove the holder all you have to do is push the 'lips' on the front 2 clips and the back ones 'Hinge' out of their location holes. A nice easy job when you have the information. Thanks Derek

Whilst I had it out I also drilled a hole in the side of the glovebox for the Aux in cable to come through instead of it going round the side of the glovebox door. It just needs a rubber grommet to finish the job off.

Removal does give a bit more space in that miniscule glovebox. The Cds will now go in a 20 Cd leatherette case under the seat.
