Santa delivered a Garmin nuvi 250 GPS and I am considering the best method and location to mount it.
THe MB GPS location is the best - so I tried mounting the suction cup on an old CD which is then inserted only half way into the CD slot. this mounts easily, but the CD player wants to load the CD - even though there is already a real CD in the slot.
I have also tried the suction cup directly on the radio screen as another possibility, and I will also consider using sticky backed velcro strips fastened inside the glove box and extending outside the closed glove box to mount the GPS.
So far, the direct approach ( fastened to the radio glass front ) seems to work best.
I would rather not reinvent the wheel, so if someone has already found an elegantly simple solution that works well, please share your thoughts and experience. Thanks.
I have the same unit but simply mount it to the windshield using the suction cup holder thingy provided. This has the advantage of portability since I can use it either vehicle. I don't know about the B-class, but this location works very well for my Audi - no problem accessing it if need be (I try not to when the car is moving), and it does not intrude on my field of vision when driving. Try this for a bit before you do something more permanent. The dash-mounted sticker has a warning on it that says it is not easy to remove once mounted.
I mount mine on the windshield as well. It works well and does not block the view in my opinion. However, if I leave it in the car during very hot weather, I do find that it tends to fall off. Not usually a problem as I don't usually leave it mounted unless actually needed.
Jeff mind you don't get it stolen leaving it in the car. In the UK they are the most common reason for cars to get broken into.
The Police recommend you either remove them or hide them in the car out of site.
You should also rub off the tell-tale ring left when you remove the suction cap as the thieves are even looking at windscreens for these marks & break in just to see if you have left the GPS in the car. A pretty sad state of affairs I'm afraid
I hope you do not have the same scenario in Canada our crooks will steal anything, even the blue badges which enable the disabled to park easier. (they can fetch up to
£ 1,000)

Is that mount custom made for the B class Dennis it looks a nice fit
No, it's a Brodit holder for the B-Class and a Brodit holder for the Garmin.
I sawed the two in half and glued everything together.
I like it better then having the Garmin on the windshield, that's far away to reach and it blocks my vision.
I am interested in getting a GPS but don't know what to look for. In general, how do they work; what features should I look for; what brand should I look for and avoid? Is it like a GPS tracking system that I have to subscribe and pay for service? What is the price range? Is map updateable every year with a fee? Please enlighten me.
EDIT: Garmin and TomTom apear to be the two most popular brand out there. Garmin nuvi 250 is the cheapest and provide the most basic feature. 250W is nicer with wide screen. I also prefer text to speech feature on the 350 and you don't need to look at the screen while driving. All other features like mp3 player, Live Traffic, FM Transmitter, and Bluetooth aren't important.
There is a company called "Clicon" also known as "Brodit" who manufacture fittings for all types of cars (including MB's of course). Check the internet at this Australian site for details and search for a distributer in your location. Kiosk Communications -
