Exclamation Check those Alloy Wheels Now

With winter coming on I would suggest that you remove your Alloys (especially if you have the 10 spoke ones) and see if there is any grease on the surface that mates with the hub.

If not I would recommend that you put a smear of Copperslip or LM grease on the 2 slightly raised 'rims' inside the wheel & also on the chamfered centre hole.

When my original B was 5 months old (over a winter time) I tried to remove the wheels & could not get them off they were solidly stuck on ( corrosion / salt ?).

The dealer promised to escalate this as a safety issue to Mercedes but I find (after having a puncture) that my New B has not any grease on the wheels either.

If you don't do them before winter you will probably have trouble getting them off later.

A quick check now may well save a serious problem by the roadside.

A tyre dealer told me this was a common problem with alloy wheels and that they put Copperslip on as a matter of course.

The same thing used to happen with my wife's New Beetle. During the wheel swap I took the time to lather the face of the hub with anti-seize and avoided many problems over the years. I now make it a habit to do that on both our cars. Her new B200 will be getting the same treatment once I get the new winter alloys.
