The next generation B - engine

Automotive News is reporting that the next-generation B-Class may have engines sourced from the BMW/Peugeot partnership, probably based upon the 1.6 L series now found in the 2007 -> MINI and Peugeot 207 RC/GTI.

I'll be honest and say that I kind of like the idea of having a pure Benz, with its own engine, though that BMW/Peugeot unit is pretty nice.

I imagine that it will be a while before firm plans are made - the next Gen B was definitely NOT going to the US - but a couple of months ago I read that if US gas prices climb - that could be revisited -

Any engines will then have to take into effect the US market - and none of the current ones would really do well down there -

Americans and their horsepower .......

Lookat the new Nissan Rogue - 174 Hp out of a 4 banger - vs 130 for the 2.0 in the non turbo B

You must be down on power......the car has 136 DIN, or if you prefer, 134 net HP!

The MINI and B weigh about the same, so the 175 HP cooking version of the BMW/PSA 1.6 would probably gain as much acceptance in the USA as the MINI has.

I'd opt for the 320CDI engine from the E-Class.....

if it puts out 174 it might -

The mini looks awfully small to have the same curb weight as the B!

Depends upon which B class & which mini you choose

B 200 turbo is about 245 kg heavier than mini one

B200 turbo is only about 165 kg heavier than mini cooper (not a huge difference when compared to the apparent size difference)

Iv'e chosen the turbo cos I think that is the model quite a few of you have.

My poor old B200cdi is probably about 300kg heavier than the mini one, round about 25% heavier

Surprising result that I thought there would have been a greater weigt difference still I think the New Mini (BMW owned) is consideably heavier than the old British Leyland version.

Yeah, the MINI Cooper weighs about 200 kg less than a B 200. So I was a "little" off with my comparison! Sorry!
