Lightbulb B Class - Seat Belt Warning Chime

Ladies / Gents,

A friend of our family has loaned us a B200. Very nice car it is too....

Anyway, I have been tasked with disabling the seat belt alarm (the car is often used for very short journeys where a seat belt isn't really required).

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Regards
Paulo

PS - I have tried searching the forum here and the net in general.

I had a similar scenario for my wifes disabled seat & it needed a reprog by M/B and they will not program the computer without you signing a disclaimer form. I would be very suprised if they would disable a safety feature for the reason that you state.

I can't see a reason for seat belts not being worn even for a short trip (in UK statistics state that most accidents occur within 1 mile of your home).

In the UK seat belts are mandatory & you are fined for not wearing them.

However if you were insistant on not using the belt and not wanting the alarm why not get a seat belt clip from a breakers yard and plug that in on it's own, that should probably work.
If you cannot get one from a wreckers then see if a mechanic or handyman can make you up a dummy one from metal using the car one as a template.

I personally would never drive any distance without a seatbelt.

this is very strange thing. i dont think, it's very difficult to disable this alarm. i heard that in porsche you can have this alarm disabled by service after signing adequate papers

It's different with M/B they definitely don't want you disabling their safety features, believe me, I've been down this route twice with my B classes.

I whole heartedly agree with Trout's comments on this matter.

Clunk Click every trip as they used to say.

When I first started driving 40 years ago I had to do an emergency stop, & seat belts wern't mandatory in those days, I pivoted up on the seat narrowly missing the windscreen but hitting my head on the bottom of the roof. I immediately went out and bought seatbelts for that car & I have always worn them ever since.

The idea that seatbelts are not needed for short trips is nonsense. If you disable it for them, expect a lawsuit when your friend goes head first through the windscreen.....

Just as a matter of interest is the EU (European Union) the only country where it is an offence not to wear a seatbelt

Absolutely not. Canada has strict enforcement rules... it is almost routine to see constables setting up at a corner or such to see if the car's inhabitants are wearing seatbelts..... no chance to even try and snap it on quickly ..... experience. Meanwhile I have gotten used to wearing them and would never drive without.

cheers, guenter

I'm really surprised that someone would even think that since they are just going a short distance they don't need to buckle up. Wow, it's well known that most accidents happen with a close radius of ones own home. Why is there so much effort required to put on a belt?

Wear your seat belt
You have brought a Mercedes where safety is important so use the equipment. I feel strange now without a belt on.
