That's what pushed me to get the B. I could see that the UK was paying a lot more for the same B. I felt it was a fair value in CDN $ if I didn't load it up with options.

My friend Reiner was just at the IAA in Frankfurt today telling the M-B people about this price differential and the fact that I had ordered a B....they gave him a free Minichamps B Class model in Horizon Blue for his trouble He got some press kits too....

You have got to love the Auto Show circuit! I should have the model about the same time the real car arrives

satisfaction

Electric door mirror now fitted. Very helpful service department and at a charge of only £150 including VAT ie list price. I'm now a happier customer.

Presumably that was for the drivers door mirror only ?

Are you able to fold the mirror in on the move (e.g. if someone was approaching you on a narrow stretch of road) ?

both sides

It was for both sides. The mirrors fold in electronically via a switch. i guess that you could do it when moving.

They do go back (later Bs only ??)

Just had a reply back from my dealer (after requesting that he tries to knock back mirrors on B class in showroom) & he stated that they do go back.

I tried on mine and yes if you give them a good bang they do fold back (or forward) This is not something I would do on a regular basis (ie on overnight parking) as the mechanism looks a bit flimsy ,but it does look as if they would fold in on the occasional garage door or wing mirror clip & also on passing down a narrow country lane they could be pushed in. The retaining lugs look to be made of plastic with a springy piece of bent thin rod clipping in to them. ( DOH I should have taken a photo)

I would not suggest you try this on a B class that is more than a couple of months old as I am sure that they have changed the design. I am positive they used to be differently designed. If you do try it & it goes wrong don't blame me as it worked on ok mine.

They best bet is to get the electrically retractring ones fitted when you order the car new if retracting is going to ever be needed.

happy?

My dealer also told me that they would fold in in an emergency situation i.e. if another car hit you, but they were not designed to be used on a regular basis in that way - hence my decision to put for the electric option. Are you going to stick with what you have got or push for a retrofit like I did?

Don't think the dealer would go for the retrofit at option price due to various other reasons but I am getting them to give me a quote anyhow. If it is the usual aftermarket price I shall put up with what I've got

Just received my quote for retrospective mirror fit
Parts £ 659
Labour £ 334

That's nearly £ 1000 total or over 6 times the factory fit cost of £ 165

If your thinking of buying a new B class opt for the factory fitted option.
