I got the word from my dealer today that my car (my daughter, Julia, named it "Ondine") is on the train and making its way to Vancouver by October 23rd, with an ETA in Victoria of either October 27 or 29. So I should be in the car by Halloween. BOO yeah!
That's great; did you notice the high number of smarts in Victoria? About 6000 B-Classes have been sold in Canada so far, but Victoria is not among the areas where it's most popular, but there are a few......mine will be one more in the traffic (though I will be driving the smart a lot more often).
There may be hope yet! They picked the car off its roof from the prairie grass and put it back on a train...which should arrive in New Westminster this Saturday at 5 AM.
I have authorised a "dealer pickup" which means that they will send a driver to New West to get the car and drive it back, avoiding the several days' delay waiting for a truckload.
So the car gets here with 60 km on the clock and a few cold engine burnouts. Actually their driver is a 67 year old lady, who I have met. It's all good.
So yeah, I still may get it before the weekend of the 3rd/4th, when we had been planning to drive it to Seattle to taunt the Americans with.
I would be most surprised if your 67 year old lady will blow it up in 60km, it definitely sounds your best option otherwise the MK2 will be out before you get it at this rate. Mind you had it been a 17 year old lad that might be a different story.
Jeez…it feels like we are all waiting for the delivery of a baby. I waited almost a year for mine. It was ten months from the time I learned about the B to the time one became available because I could only import a used one. It took another four weeks to get it down here.
So I was wondering… what made you decide that the B was the right car for you?
And hey I would be more than happy to go pick up your car. I’m in need of a trip to Victoria about this time.
The choice was easy...ever since driving a Renault Scénic all over Europe in 2005, my wife and I came to the conclusion that this was a great type of family car. So we looked at the options over here.....no Renault, no Peugeot 307 SW, no Opel Zafira, no Ford C Maxx, etc
The only small wagony-MPV thingies were the B and the Mazda 5, the latter being more van-like and having an entirely useless seating arrangement for us, with only 4 proper seats and two baby jumpseats in the trunk.
