( I have test drive the R twice, its size is unnatural vast in length, width and height. The only reason that I think MB make the R is to compete with the Honda Pilot type of seven seater.)

This is possibly also to compete with the Audi Q7 (I don't know if that is exported to North America or Canada) which for us Europeans is a massive vehicle.
We are also used to 7 seater MPVs costing up to about £ 20,000 & not the £35-50,000 of the R class (or Q7 exact price unknown).

( ------I have relatives and friends who are owners of M and R class and they sweared no more MB after all the quality problems they have encountered. They are owners of multiple MB -------- I don't have to own an American build MB to prove my point. One should check out the M and R class forum to see for yourself how dissatisfied those owners are with the M and R class. Ever wonder why no B class in US, ah ... they are afraid that it may put the M and R class in shame on the quality side. )

I & quite a few other owners would probably not agree with you on the quality of the B class due to the experiences we have outlined in these various threads.
When I purchased my first b class I was assured by the dealer that the poor quality issues were a thing of the past yet I had endless problems. I hope I am over these with my new one. But these quality issues aside I do like the car.
We have the Audi SUV here, it's HUGE, but I've only seen one.....my dream is that these suckers become unprofitable overnight and carmakers that are heavily reliant on them lose their shirts.....

But that could also mean M/B & the R Class thats also massive

I am now working on importing a b200 to US and am just a little concerned about quality issues in this vehicle based on threads I have read in this forum. I have to say, however, that I don't really understand the bad quality rap being assigned to the R class in this thread. I have owned an R350 for a year and have found it to be an extremely reliable car and just an amazingly comfortable and useful vehicle that is just fantastic to drive long distances at high speed. I have been reading the R forum here in Benzworld for the entire time I have owned the car and find very few owners experiencing any quality issues. I am sure there are individual stories of problems, but on balance it seems R class owners are just thrilled with their vehicles and can't understand why they are not selling better in the US market.
In this thread alone, I see that (at least) 1 member has a B in Southern California and another member (in Boston) is planning to import a B as well.
I am curious to know, how does a B in the US receive its warranty and regular maintenance work? Do MB dealers in the US also have technicians trained to service a B? And the dealers carry B's spare parts in their inventory?

Hi BostonBob, Thanks for the other side. I also feel that we all have specific complaints that a few of us try to resolve with these forums. That's why we're here.
I feel the quality, the fit and finish are great' for what I paid'.(approx. 32,000 CAD) Cheers, Derek

When I was driving back from NYC a few weeks back, a guy in an R-Class tailed me for a good 10-15 minutes before pulling up beside me to have a better look. I think he originally thought we were driving the same car and was pleased that someone else appreciated his good taste in cars. Eventually he got a bit closer and realized that my car was smaller and was a model he had never seen before. There were no friendly waves and I got the distinct impression that he was slightly annoyed by seeing an economy version of his car...hehehehehe. After he had a good look, he floored it and sped ahead.
Getting back to the original question....its a great car. Small on the outside. Massive on the inside. Much quieter inside vs. my last car which was a Jaguar X-Type. Smooth as can be on the highway at 120 kph. The CVT is a little different that traditional transmissions. It sounds kinda weird sometimes but it works like a charm. Go for it!!!

The warranty converted to the US warranty when I registered the car in the US. (4 yrs/48,000 miles), not as good as the Canadian warranty…but hey it’s a Mercedes so I shouldn’t have to worry about that right?
Any MB dealership can work on the car as they all have access to the manuals and as they tell me…it’s no different then someone on vacation needing repairs. So, I’m not sure about the technician question as even the paint colors are unique to the B. I’ll be taking it in for the B service soon so I guess I’ll find out then.
No parts for the B are available in the US and MB wants it that way. They have to be ordered from Germany or a Canadian dealership which could mean days or weeks so I stocked up on some essentials such as wiper blades, oil filter, brake pads and a belt.
