I read on my car's order sheet (it's being built between now and the 20th, yay!) that there is "cold country equipment" on the car. I presume that this is a block heater, higher % of anti-freeze and maybe one or two other things.
Anyway, what I would like to know from Canadian B Class owners is: does your car have a factory (or Halifax-installed) block heater, and did it come with a cord for the heater when you picked the new car up?
If not, did you have to buy the heater and cord? How much did it cost? Etc....
I seem to remember with our former C 230 K Sportcoupé that it had a block heater but the cord was extra, and cost silly money from the M-B dealer (like >$100).
Hi Mike, No block heater on mine. The subject never came up in Dec. 05. With synthetic oil it shouldn't really be a problem. Unfortunately we do see -40 C on occasion here but I don't think you will out where you are. Derek

The last Benz I bought was my wife's 2005 W203. It kind of came with a block heater. The block heater was installed but the cable wasn't run. The dealer charged me an inordinate amount for what wound up being a short run of AC cable from the frost plug to the grill. If you are feeling adventurous check the block and see if the frost plug has the heater installed - if it does then just buy the cable from the parts department and route it yourself (and tie it back with zip straps). Mind you - I live in central Ontario and while we've always had block heaters these last few years haven't given us much reason to use 'em. I guess for Canadians there is an "arguable" upside to global warming. Soon I won't have to head south in the winters - it'll come to me <?grin/groan?>

Any info would be welcome!
According to my dealer, you could not install a block heater if ya wanted to. Can't be done.
Seems kind of strange, but that's what they told me.
I'll have to go looking for frost plugs but you would think that an" in the hose heater" would be an alternate option if no frost plugs are found. A couple of cool nights a year and synthetic oil really makes the block heater unnecessary. Derek
It is possible to fit a Webasto stationary heater in the B-Class. Just ask the germans on motor-talk.de for the part numbers. The integration with the climatronic is a bit tricky.
The diesel B is fitted with an electrical heater that starts when the engine is running and the outside temp is below 5 degrees (celsius). But that's not that usefull in Canada where it's much colder.

A few months ago, I ordered a 2008 B200 Turbo with the Premium Pkg, Auto Transmission, Alarm System, Style Pkg, and more. It should have arrived in Halifax on Sep 19th. I beleive that they are distributed across Canada on the railway train so, it should arrive in Montréal any day.
This will be my first MB. I have been driving Handa's for the last 20 years and I have been very pleased with my vehicles. I am presently driving a 1998 Odyssey which is still in very good shape. I just hope that this B Turbo will be as good.

Hi Claude, that's good news! I think Montréal should be only a couple of days by train from Halifax.....and wow, you ordered it a few months ago? that's a long wait!
