2008 Cell Phone PreWire - Canadian Entertainment Package
I just got my new 2008 B Class with the Entertainment package which supposedly includes "cellular telephone prewiring". When I asked my dealer they indicated that I would need quite a bit of additional parts and labour to take advantage of the "cellular telephone prewiring" (about 1500$ CAD worth of parts and labour).
This is my 3rd Benz from this dealer and while they've always been good guys they've never impressed me as being the brightest of lights.
My previous W201 and W202 was pretty straight forward for cell prewire - but I'm being told the B Class is a totally different situation.
You should check the storage in the armrest. If there's a socket for a phoneholder present then yu only need the appropriate holder for your phone. The rest of the wiring should be in place then.
If there's no socket to connect the phone holder then there's some wiring to be done....

Anyone run up against this situation yet?
for Canada, you will need to buy an MHI (multi-handset interface) kit from the dealer AND a Bluetooth dongle (if BT is the way you want to go).
the dealer should've explained that to you before you took that package...
I thought to ask about it once I accepted delivery. It was one of those things - my current lease was winding down and I didn't know what to get next. I'd had a handful of W20x cars and wanted something different. My salesman - whom I've used for years - suggested I test drive a W245. I liked it - he had one on his lot - I took it. When he did the research here is what he came up with:
"Even after having the pre wiring you need to add the MHI (multi handset interface) $624, cradle harness $111, plastic plate, metal cup, (instal pieces I think), and the bluetooth adapter $385."
This added up to almost 1800$ including installation and taxes. He basically said the prewire amounted to exactly that - wires and not much else <groan>...
I will say the "upgraded HK" sound system does sound noticeably better than the base sound system. The Sirius Satellite Audio is also quite fun especially considering I'm a fan of dinosaur rock. Lastly the changer in the glove box does play MP3's which is quite nice in the event I can't find something on Sirius (as my local stations aren't quite to my taste).
Not sure I'd recommend the "Entertainment Package" as an option - but on a lease it only amounts to a few bucks per month...
