Hi to all, i have read in other forums for converting the simple thermatic system to climatronic just by replacing the control panel unit.. Also this part is found on ebay for only about 200 euro comparing to the accessory from mercedes (when you buy it..) which is about 2000 euro more... For models w209 and w211 people have done it and works like plug&play.. the only thing is missing is the top air-vent system which is not so important...
If anyone has any info like this for our w245 please share with us...
Yeah I did the full 580 to 581 conversion on my C-Class and I had to take out the entire dashboard and rewire the whole main harness. Add motors and so on.
Only then did I have the full conversion. But if you just want the look of it ... I suppose its enough to just get the control panel. Don't expect it to work properly. For one thing it can only do 1/2 of its actual functions.

Thanks miroj.. you're right. After some research i did, i saw that in my model has push rods which have to be replaced my motors. Also there is a sun detector and some other stuff which is missing. So this is not so simple...
What about just adding the rear seat ducting and wents in the back of the centre console? Has anyone tried that?
It should be possible, but it's a hell of a job, at significant costs.
You would have to add the duct, install a new centre rest and add the duct to the cooler/heater thingy behind the dash....
Well, I would be interested in seeing the price of the parts; the work would not be a problem. But if it's hundreds of dollars, it's just not going to be worth the cost.
The strange thing is this: our former 2002 C 230 K Sportcoupé had rear passenger console vents, and it was not equipped with THERMATRONIC, and wasn't exactly a typical car that you would often have rear passengers in!
This was useful when we had rear passngers on a trans-Canada trip (Vancouver Island to Québec City and back) but I sure wish the B without THERMATRONIC had it too, considering that it is intended to have rear passengers on a more frequent basis!
This was a very good idea and unfortunately when i disassembled the central console i didn't check if air vents existed... Because on the back seats side there is only a cap replacement for the vents to get in... (where is a small place for coins and etc and the ashtray..). So if air outlets exist in the center console i think it could be easy...
