The other day I saw a red B200 driving around Edmonton and noticed that only the head lights were on (as proper DRLs) but on my '06 all the lights are on all the time. Is that something new for '07/'08? Or are my light screwed up? Thanks,

Hi Anthony,
It's normal to see all lights working on your B. In Canada, putting your low beams on lets you access your high beams and it automatically dims your dash lights for night driving. (for 06 models it works that way)
Is there a simple way to disable the DRL on the Canadian market cars entirely? I like being able to use fog lights together with city lights in severe fog, and with DRL engaged, this is not possible.
On our smart fortwo, it is dead simple: pull back on the high beam flasher and press unlock button on key fob. Presto. Lock to reverse the process.

The DRL are there because it's mandatory in Canada. There must be a simple way to disable it. You just need access to the wiring diagrams and relays that control the lights.
I realise it's mandatory....has been since the 1990 model year.....I just prefer to turn on my lights myself. On the smart, they eat headlight bulbs when DRL are activated, so I have deactivated them and use the fog lights as DRL instead.
In pea soup fog, having the headlights on at the same time as the fogs defeats the puropose of the fogs...the headlights reflect in your eyes and well, that's what the fog lights are good at not doing!
On the B-Class, when I get it in October/November, I hope to find a software feature that allows me to shut them off. I'm not about to muck about with factory wiring though, at least not for the years that the car is under warranty!

What you've said above is absolutely right. The USA doesn't have DRL's yet and I wonder where else it's in effect? It costs us a lot of extra light bulbs but it's safer when the sun is low and shinning in your face and you can see the other car coming "because "those lights are on. Derek
there will be a relay somewhere under the dash that you simply need to pull. Plan to do this myself once I figure out which relay it is. Did this on my '93 190E as well and it allowed me to turn on the lights when required without wasting the bulbs.
The DRL function on my vehicle is switched on/off via one of the menu's in the multi function display (scroll down under the main settings menu), with the headlights set to constant, the low beam is on whenever the car is running and it is still possible to select the fog lights on/off as required when in this mode.
We in Canada do not have that indicator in our menu, so we're back to square one.
But it's nice to see that some have the choice !And Sebl, what's new on your B?

I will try the same thing that works for CDN model smarts: pull back on high beam flasher, engine off, key fob in hand and then press unlock. Maybe that'll do the trick
