Hi to all that have the same 'ticking' sound from the steering system...

Just today i called them back asking for any progress for this case... For my surprise they informed that they will have to change the rack&pinion completely to fix this problem.. I am expecting new call for having the car there...

I hope that first my problem will be solved, and second.. my car will continue to go straight!!!!

I hope also, that these guys should follow step by step instructions as WIS says because there are many specifications as for the force that screws are tightened , for safety bolts that is for one use only ... etc...

So if anyone has the same problem and has no info from his dealer its time to search for it..

Cheers

George,
To make sure that all is completed to your satisfaction, make a request to see all parts that are changed during this repair including those "once only" nuts and bolts.
Bring your camera and take pics of all the changed parts.
Together,we'll study our WIS notes and our great team here will review what they did and hopefully help you out.(if necessary)

Good luck, Derek

I recently informed a long-time Peugeot mechanic that I only know online that the head bolts on a 405 are "once only". He didn't know that and looked a bit stupid to the other forum members......I wonder how the cars he repaired with re-used head bolts are faring

In the morning when I first start the car, it would chok and the rpm point flickers between 700rpm and 1000 rpm and it sounds like the car is going to stall or something , but so far it never stall but just choking, however, when I put it in D gear this flicking pointer thing goes away while the cracking noise from the steering sometimes being heard again not often and can't repeat at dealer....so frastruting....
Finally, someone with the EXACT same problem as me! I have brought it to my dealer 3 times and they could never recreate the noise. Meanwhile it's getting louder and louder. So far I see no correlation to warm or cold, but when I change direction I hear it BUT when I hit the breaks, the noise stops for a bit (10 seconds) and then comes back. Is it the same for you as well? I tell you this car is beginning to be a POS IMO!!!

Hi to all... FINALLY i have some real results here...

Before some minutes i took my car back.. i have to say that seems to drive straight again! The feel of the steering wheel seems to be exactly the same and the good point is that i cannot hear this f....ing noise any more... i hope this will last!.. Here is also the photo of the replaced part.. (the safety screws are on the body but not seen in the photo) and the other good point is that they replaced the whole unit including the motor part, because in WIS its described as rack & pinion only without the electric motor unit.. Of course it needs more testing which i will post here as the days pass... Finally they gave me a paper with all the adjustments (camber, caster, toe) that they made...

Cheers

George,
That's great news and let's hope that they got it right.
Imagine the cost of changing that without a warranty!!
Good Luck, Derek

ps: Keep a close eye on the wear of your front tires.
